Mid Major Series
Just do this. Play in each region for regular season. Play an BCS team for the money each year (Like now). Then have the play off and play for the MMS Championship.

I'd rather we shut down the program to be honest. I think USM and La Tech fans would feel the same.

If thats what you desire, thats what FCS is for. Go regional, have a good time, and have a real playoff goes totally unnoticed.

RE: Mid Major Series
That's a crappy deal for USM.

The mid-majors need to be organized into tiers: a tier for schools that have fans and history and a tier for schools that aspire to having these things. For many years, CUSA was the first tier, along with the MWC and, for a while, the WAC. Now, CUSA has been busted up, and so has the WAC, and the Big East has collapsed down onto us.

But there are still two tiers of mid majors, and they won't willingly mix with each other, any more than the SEC will mix with us.

Maybe the have, but something like that is just conceding defeat. The "gang of 5" schools can't willingly do something like that, because then we are no different than FCS schools and that's the end.

The new conference that emerges from the BE will feature the best of the rest and attempt to separate itself from the other 4 in the gang of 5

Exactly, that horrible idea is admitting, the rest of us are screwed and there's nothing out there worth putting on TV other than the Big4.5 (Since I'm dropping the ACC to take the BE's place as the 1/2 power player).

Serious? It's an internet sports forum.

I was just creating conversation from a different perspective. The Big Four, *****, the networks created the Mid Major Football label. If you are lucky enough to be included in the Big Four, that's great. If not then, the best of the rest. Who is the best of the rest? Many opinions there. The Mid Major programs should continue to fight the fight but at what point does it become futile?

Now basketball is labeled big boys and Mid Major. I can only imagine what is next on the horizon there.

Merry Christmas!

Nope.

They had/have a chance to do exactly this, but the left-behind NBE won't do it. Not learning from mistakes is a direct result of poor leadership and it looks like Aresco isn't any better than Meatball.

RE: Mid Major Series
In the announcement regarding the BE breakup--

Looks like the effective date is June, 2015, though I would guess that might be negotiated earlier. From reading the article, I assume the all sports/football only schools keep the BE name.

Both the new conference and the BE get an auto bid.

http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketba...ng-members

"What happens next is unclear. It has been reported the schools breaking away will look at Creighton, Xavier, Dayton, Saint Louis and Butler to join a new basketball league. When combined with the seven schools leaving the Big East, we will be looking at a very good basketball conference. They are expected to have an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

According to our own Jeremy Fowler, there are no exit fees since the seven schools are leaving as a group. The exit date -- without fees -- is June 30, 2015. Sources also told Fowler that the the remaining Big East schools will keep their automatic bid, but it is unclear whether they will invite football-only schools to become all-sports members."
