Ron Zook to interview in the morning.

Also, Petrino is indeed intrested in the job, but will not talk seriously until after his bowl game. Ole Miss said it was his if he wanted it, but would continue to pursue another coach also until that time. He was offered 1.7 million per year including incentives.

I think either coach would be a great pick up for you guys. I think Zook may have some fire built up and that may be good for Ole Miss.

But they need someone in quick before they miss out on any or all recruits(Happened to Tech when O'Leary left...takes a long time to catch back up to what you were)

Take Zook off the list; he's going to Illinois per the Gainesville Sun.

As for Petrino.. he might be interested if OM actually offers 1.7 million a year. I doubt that'll be the offer though. My guess is that Ole Miss will offer their new HC somewhere in the neighboorhood of 1.25 to 1.3 million a year. The problem with Petrino is that Louisville is a BCS school as of next year, and with the Big East looking as easy as it is right now, he'd have a much easier road getting to a BCS game through Louisville...it'd be a question of $$ vs. security.

You'd get Neuheisal if you offered him, but I wouldn't go for any coach who's had a history of cheating and/or controversy. We learned that lesson when we lost scholarships in the Danny Ford era (who put Clemson on probation). Heck, look at MSU.. Jackie Sherrill cheated everywhere he went (Pitt, A&M, now MSU on probation). I still say y'all should go after Dan Hawkins at Boise St. The guy wins, he's beaten BCS teams easily, he's gonna open up your offense, and he's going to want to jump to a BCS school.

although it looks like Petrino is staying put, my numbers on the contract offer was accurate. Money isn't as much of an object as people think. We were paying cuttcliffe 1.2

I have to say I'm honestly surprised that you're shelling 1.7M out, mostly because of the buyout money OM has to pay Cuttcliffe. Money IS an object when you're paying 2 coaches' football salaries, Cutt's and whoever your new coach is (why Stan Heath's only making 800k/yr. for now) There are some OM boosters who are throwing in some serious dough there.

Petrino's got an easier route to the BCS through Louisville, which is probably his main reason for staying if that's confirmed. It's easier to tackle West Virginia, Rutgers, and Cincy than the SEC West plus Florida, Georgia, Tenn., etc.

Depends on how they'll perform in BCS games in the next couple of years. I didn't think the Big East deserved a bid this year... a 7-4 Pitt team is going to get slaughtered by Utah. Louisville should be the favorite to win the Big East next year, if they win the conf. and the BCS game, the Big East will be clinging still to their spot. Otherwise, give it 2-3 years, and the moment it's gone is the moment Petrino will begin to look elsewhere.

As for me, I am glad we didn't get Zook. He never even beat Ole Miss and I thought he was mediocre at best at Florida with the talent they have. He is also supposed to be a defensive guy, yet his defense sucks. I wanted Willingham, but he wants something else. I want Orgeron. He's from the South, Louisiana, and cares about southern football. He's also quite a success at USC.

Nope, but neither was Bob Stoops or Mark Richt when they took their jobs.

.....and Zook has been a dismal failure at UF. They had the talent there. Hell, they had the #1 high school QB in Leak. He has lost about as many games as Spurrier did.. Of course he did it in 3 years. Add the fact that he couldn't beat Ole Miss to begin with, and I think that should disqualify him. If we wanted a mediocre coach, we could have stayed with Cutt.

Was not trying to flame Kev, was just asking a question and was too lazy to look it up. 04-cheers

It's cool. I just didn't want Zook. Looks like Erickson might have it and they're saying a coach will be named by Wednesday.

I don't want Ericson...even though he won a Nat'l Championship at Miami, he also left them on probation. He did improve the Oregon State team but he has been a total flop with SF.

I prefer Ogeron or how ever you spell his name - the Assistant Head Coach at USC. Does a tremendous job recruiting from what I've read.

The BEST move we could make is canning PETE BOONE. He makes us look like a joke, the way he handles "everything" is embarrassing.

I firmly believe that coaching the crybabies in the NFL and coaching a college team is a totally different animal. There is not one Rebel on this board that would have turned down Spurrier, regardless of how much we hated him, yet he had a dismal career coaching in the pros. Erickson was awesome as a college coach. That's all I care about. I do not care about his NFL career as, like I said, it's totally different. Money doesn't motivate these kids, prominance and tradition do. With that said, it wouldn't disappoint me to see Oregron hired either.
