Its a long story that involves "bleachergate". Bottom line, because our administration made an incredibly dumb decision about 10 years ago and pissed off Deloss Dodd, we will never ever get a peak at the Big-12 as long as Texas is there. Basically, we refused to move a Houston vs Texas game to a larger venue and insisted that it be played at Robertson. Instead, we built some rickety azz temporary bleachers to hold 5,000 extra UT fans. The extra bleachers were ruled unsafe the day before the game which just made us look stupid and small time. It basically reinforced everything Dodd probably already thought about us. All the people that made that decision are gone, but we will live with the stink until Dodd retires.
On top of that, the Big 12 gets pretty good ratings in Houston so they are really better off making inroads into places like W Virginia or Florida than adding a 5th Texas school. If Texas and Tech leave the Big-12 one day, we likley get in. Otherwise, we have to hope a distant conference (like the ACC or Pac-12) wants to make inroads into Texas.

Interesting. Ive actually heard the opposite. Not saying he is a big fan, but supposedly he is not adamantly opposed to our addition like Dodd. I dont know, its not like Ive met the man so I could be wrong on that.

Oh yeah, it was on ESPN with DeLoss all red-faced, spitting and wetting his pants in fury. He said he never would play Cougar High in anything ever again. Doesn't feel like a full 10 years ago though.

Now that they are on equal footing, I'm sure Dodds will be forced to re-evaluate his position.

Let me rephrase. He doesnt like yall as a member of the same athletic conference as his University. Its not like he pisses on UH gear in his private bathroom.
