UNT fans, I need your help.
I'm coming to you live from Denton. What is there to do here? I'm black and in my mid-20's. I know this won't be easy since school isn't in session other than graduations (which I'm in town for).

Please help.

There are some nice bars on Fry Street. Lucky Lou's, Cool Beans, and Riprocks are fun. The Side Bar and Garage are good too. Or, there are more bars at the Courthouse square. Rockin' Rodeo is on the other side of campus, but Thursday night is College Night. If you get hungery, the Mellow Mushroom has great pizza, and Fuzzy's Tacos are great, if you like fish tacos.

Good luck and have fun!

I'm here with family so it won't be any bars for me unless there are some close to the hotel (I'm off Brinker Street right now) that I can just walk to, which I doubt.

Rockin' Rodeo sounds interesting, what is there to do there? And "The Square" was suggested to me, what about that?

Rockin' Rodeo is a club. Probably not where you want to take the family.

The square is old downtown Denton. It's a great place. Most of the building are over 100 years old. A great place to go day or night. If you're going out there tomorrow, the Recycled Bookstore is a great maze of books, movies, old records, and CDs. Beth Marie's Ice Cream is a great place to take your family. They make their own ice cream. If you like coffee, Jupiter House has the best in Denton. Try their original brew. All these places are on the square, and family friendly.

You've got world class musicians in Denton, Texas, America, ie, named by Rand McNally's the "Most Fun Small City in the USA." The UNT College of Music and its almost 1,600 music majors (of which that college on campus has several rich and famous alums) is a major presence in Denton. We actually lend some of our UNT-trained musicians to Dallas when we really start feeling sorry for the lack of quality of its local talent club scene (and over here in Fort Worth for that matter).

The UNT music majors that have paid gigs certainly will be there now.

Definitely head to the square. Recycled Books is an AWESOME spot if you're into books, records, movies. Mad World records is great. There are some cool stores around the square open in the daytime: Atomic Candy, Beth Marie's (old fashioned ice cream). Industrial Blvd (1 block down) has a ton of good food - head to Rooster's for american fare with a redneck twist ( I think its 4.5 stars on yelp).

If you have young kids, Eureka Park is top notch. Just off I-35E and Teasley.

No, I don't have any kids or a wife, I'm just in town with some close relatives although my aunt does have a child, so thanks for that suggestion.

On the square you can also find Denton County Hamburgers which is awesome. Their location on the square is only open for lunch, though. They have another location near Carroll and 380 that is open for dinner as well.

If the weather is good then just hanging out on the square can be a fun, relaxing evening. The courthouse with all the lights in the trees is very inviting.

As someone said previously, Eureka Park is terrific! You could also take a walk around the UNT stadium and maybe get a tour. There's a gift shop inside of the stadium that should be open and can at least get you part way in.

Thanks, it'll probably be at 3-5 p.m. today until the night that I'll get started after the graduation.

RE: UNT fans, I need your help.
It depends on what you're into really. The square is more the hipster scene, with a lot of great music venues. I don't know a lot about each specific bar because I didn't spend a lot of time there, which I regret.

Fry Street is the more traditional college bar district. I'll start at the north side of the strip and work my way down.

Cool Beans is primarily hipsterish. It has an ok selection of beer and serves normal bar food. It has a pretty neat rooftop patio, but nothing special.

Lucky Lou's is a good mix of all types of people with a great patio. It probably has the largest selection of beer on fry. The problem is it gets insanely packed even on normal weekends, but especially on graduation weekends.

The next bar over, Riprocks, has a similar crowd as lucky lou's, but never gets quite as busy. There are a lot of games in there such as shuffle board, and darts.

As you round the corner of fry to the south, it starts to get more fratty as you go down the line. The Side Bar is a pretty relaxed small bar that doesnt ever seem to get that busy.

The garage usually has live music, and is has a large selection of pool tables, arcade games, and darts.

The tavern is where it really starts getting fratty. It is indoor only and gets pretty busy so I usually stay away from there.

The last bar is the public house. This is pretty much frat central. It is also one of the few places to dance on fry as well (late night). It has a pretty large patio and they also serve bar food as well
