RE: NBR-11:00 am - Shooting at Conn. Elementary school this morning
"No nation on earth, except those in the midst of war, has as much violent behavior as we do - in our homes, on our televisions, and in our streets."
"We face far higher rates of murder, assault, rape and other violent crimes than other societies."
"The most violent place in America is not in our streets, but in our homes - more than 50 percent of the women murdered in the U.S. are killed by their partner or ex-partner."
"13 American children die every day from guns."
"Our entertainment media too often exaggerate and even celebrate violence - children see 8,000 murders and 100,000 other acts of violence on television before they leave elementary school."
"The violence of abortion has destroyed more than 30 million unborn children since 1972."

Again, relinquish this Right at our own peril. Relinquish this one, then what's next?

RE: NBR-11:00 am - Shooting at Conn. Elementary school this morning
Let's quit talking as if the complete banning of guns OF ANY TYPE is even a remote possibility. Yes, there is the 2nd Amendment, but that is not what protects gun ownership. It is the American belief that gun ownership has something to do with home protection against "bad guys with (or without) guns". Just like with the 16th Amendment that supposedly protected "minority voting" and a number of Constitutional passages that should have protected Native Americans in the 19th century (see Andy Jackson vs John Marshall in defense of the Cherokees in GA) and the natural born citizens who were Japanese-Americans during WWII, the 2nd Amendment is just so much paper IF the American public gets scared or upset enough to disregard it.
The most that can even CONCEIVABLY be done is to close the most egregious "loopholes" in existing laws about "waiting periods" after purchase, ending the lack of gun safety training and the accompanied end of sales at gun shows or private person to person unregistered sales of guns. Something along the lines of what we now require for the sale and safe operation of an automobile would be a good guide to how the public would want to see in new or upgraded gun laws. THESE AND SIMILAR LAWS ARE VERY UNLIKELY GIVEN THE AMERICAN WORSHIP OF THE VARIOUS TYPES OF GUNS
