RE: Thank you Tulane and ECU
The death blow came from WV, Rutgers, Miami and VA Tech, not wanting to be in the league anymore. So put that sorry excuse for insight back in your pocket. If this league was so great these teams would not have left. What does it say that they did not want to be part of the "big" basketball school agenda. Get the facts straight. ECU and Tulane did nothing to destroy what already was embers before we got here. The 7 basketball schools should look themselves in the mirror and ask why the schools that left wanted to nothing to do with them. This is classic denial. It's like the kid who chases all his friends away telling himself that its their problem not his. One school leaving is an anomaly. Multiple schools leaving is pattern.

The death blow came from the SEC, ACC, Big 12, Big 10, and PAC whatever it is for expanding/changing their leagues, as well as unfair league contracts, tv contracts, realignment, etc.

The real villain here is....
TV money, just because your school is in a big city, doesn't make you worth a lot of $$$$. I never have understood that. I mean who will go out of their way to watch SMU or Tulane play FB. Great educational schools, but were talking FB. TV money is ruining college football.

Like the new neighbors who moved in with 8 dogs tied up in the back yard, an old couch and brokendown refrigerator on the front porch, and a rusted out Nova with no engine parked in the front yard. For sale signs going up all over the neighborhood.

You are welcome. It seems like the nBE schools voted us into the conference including the basketball schools.

The league died when Pitt, Syracuse, and West Virginia left. Losing Virginia Tech and Miami hurt, but the Big East was able to move on because it still had its core three members.

RE: Thank you Tulane and ECU
ECU is fine. They already have a BCS style stadium (minus that trailer press box) and a fanbase ahead of a bunch in the ACC. Their BB team had some bad luck with players transferring for whatever reason. I'm not worried about their hoops. They can get 4-5k with 10 years of sub par teams for the most part.

Tulane is a giant project. I've been to 2 games at Tulane and attendance was below what my High School teams draws. Their stadium will help a ton. Travel costs into New Orleans is a plus. I'm very blah on Tulane, but I do see future potential.

To be clear it was the consistent basketball first, small school mentality that doomed this conference. It caused Miami, VT and BC to leave. It eventually caused Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse and WVU to decide to start looking for lifeboats. It even caused a fine program that actually strengthened the Big East in nearly every sport it sponsors in Louisville to leave less than a decade after it joined. It even has Cincy looking for a raft a school who has been excellent for us. It has yet another charter member in UConn looking for a lifeboat too. Now the whole cause of instability is removing itself, but its about 12 years or so too late.

That being said its still sad to see all these great hoops matchups/rivalries go away.

To be fair he's thinking about who's been the better traditional Big East programs in football as of late plus Miami being a traditional national power who's down. But leaving out Pitt and Cuse from that list is a bit nutty. Once the last 4 Eastern Indies left it was completely doomed. Once the first of the 3 left it was doomed, Rutgers and then Louisville were the final nails in the coffin.

I knew exactly what I was saying. VT and Miami had at the time, more Football brand power than any of the other schools. Rutgers leaving was the final plank. Obviously Cuse and Pitt were very bad losses for the BE. In terms of tipping point and system destruction I stand by what I said.

The burden upon our yoke was made lighter because of Tulane and ECU.

For that, I salute them. The Catholic 7 can go perish in irrelevancy!
