Not ECU, we had nothing to do with the Basketball schools. They are trying to blame it on the addition of Tulane but it makes no sense because some of them would have to of voted to include them....This has been inevitable for years. In reality it had nothing to do with who was added but rather the number of teams that had left and not wanting to be involved in a basketball conference with bunch of newbie Big East schools in which they had nothing in common with. In the long run this is better for all parties involved....That mishmash of schools with such different academic and athletic profiles was not going to work, too many different agendas.

What will be interesting to see is what will happen with the Football schools...

Because they're the hero college football deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hate them. Because they can take it. Because they're not our hero; they're silent guardians, a watchful protector, a Dark Knight.

any time you see this guy post it's some shot at ECU on every thread. Doesn't matter, they didn't want any off us clearly and least of all UNCC despite your built in market, which says more about your athletics than anything else. We got our spot in the 6th best conference no matter what happens and the sooner they leave the better for us. You need to start worrying more where you are going to be and less about where we went.

The schools that left are responsible for 100% of this. If everybody had stayed, we'd be looking at easy street. So shut your mouth about leaving people behind.

Dude, chill out...Let see how things work out. No need for everyone to get at each others throats here. All ECU and any other school out there is doing is trying to set their programs up for survival in the future. I venture to say any team in CUSA that would have been invited to the Big East would have accepted.

There is no telling how this is going to work out but according to Terry Holland this action by the basketball schools does not change the commitment of the football schools to each other. He said everyone of the schools still plan to move forward together to build the best football conference they can. So that is all we can go on at this point...Who the hell knows for sure as that last few years have shown us you can not trust anyone's word when it comes to conference realignment.

Sounds like the only hope USM has to included is if Boise stays west. If they continue with plans for the BE, then the BE (if they add schools) will look west again. If Boise stays out west, I think USM and Tulsa will get the nod. Thoughts?

Depends. If Boise goes, so does SDSU (they're joined at the hip, whether they like it or not). If the MWC feels frisky, they'll try to expand more with a combination of Houston, UTEP, SMU, Tulsa, etc...

If the MWC holds pat, I agree with you. A bulk of the remainders will probably try to build anew, and the C-USA schools will be on their list. From this point, it depends on what UConn, Temple and Navy want to do that will decide how many schools they go after.

When it is all said and done. USM will get some money from exit fees from the schools that left and then will be in the same conference as them soon after. Cause that is how we roll.

Just think, if we would have held together, with Boise, instead of bolting, the Merger would have truly killed off BE and replaced it. Guess it could still happen

Let's hope. I don't have much trust in Jeff Hammond's business sense, but he's got a fantastic opportunity here. I suspect Gianninni would already basically have us out of CUSA by now.

A little. I think RG would at least be on the phone right now (with the nBE remnants and the MWC, and probably UTEP, Marshall, UAB, etc.)

Hammond? I have no idea. He's not really much of a businessman IMHO. I can see him erroneously staying in CUSA b/c he thinks it will help our balance sheet.

Wild rumor was that just before Tulane got the bid USM was contacted by the nBE. Was said Hammond turned them down because of money concerns. Totally fictional I'm sure, but.....
If this did happen in some alternate universe, then maybe Hammond has more 'buisness sense' than you give him credit for.

For a man with no business sense he certainly has been able to get us our 2 largest paydays ever, signed and sealed.
