RE: Anthony Alford granted release from Southern Miss
Well all I know is last night on the News out of Jackson was that he'd been released of his athletic scholarship.. Nothing is being said about him going to Ole Miss.

He'll probably transfer up to Ole piss and claim "he wanted to be a WR all along".
BUT IMO, he should have stuck to baseball.. he would have been "gold" (No pun intended), and still could be on the diamond.
I was okay with giving the kid a shot at QB as long as when/if he failed, he legitimately failed. after that, move him to WR. my problem was that he was thrown into a lose-lose situation, and he obviously wasn't coached up properly.
and if someone had thrown a million bucks at us when we were 19 or 20 to play baseball for a few weeks, we would have jumped on that so fast it would have made everyone's head spin
there are a lot of people at fault for AA's failure, including (to a small degree) AA, but I find it hard to fault a 19 year old kid for a 60 year old guy's incompetence.
just my $.02 worth . . .

RE: Anthony Alford granted release from Southern Miss
My evaluation of Alford from what I saw on tv was he has talent but not a great passer. He entered the Nebraska and showed he could run but when he had read the defense on a pass play, he was confused and out of his league, which is usually the case with a true freshman. The thing that seemed to be going on was there was pressure to play this guy and not to red shirt him, which is exactly what needed to be done. Sadly, he had a trump card with the baseball contract and a redshirt would have probably angered him to the point of leaving. His mother shows she is not the best guidance for him, and I doubt he had the advisors around him to help him make hard but long term benefitting decisions. I wish him the best, but my advice is, go back to baseball.

He actually didn't throw too bad against Nebraska at all. He went 1 for 5 but one of those was a drop by Hester that would have been a sure 40 yard TD, then Briggs dropped a pass that was slightly behind him but still very catchable for about a 12 yard gain.
The underthrow with Tripplet running wide open down the middle of the field was brutal though.

Thank goodness Alford was a quitter and left USM. He and his fearless mentor, Buckley, helped destroy USM football. That Petal connection was a disaster of mega proportions. Alford is a punk. His arrest on campus proved it. Good riddance to him and his crazy ass insane mom.

I wish him well.
But if he signs with Ole Myth, I hope both legs and arms are broken on one play.
I doubt he cares what I think.
