MT in 2013; FAU in 2014
This is sounding more and more like the case. MT has the money to ante up and get out of the Belt asap. Our beat writer was on local sports radio show a few minutes ago and said he still thinks we're in as of 2013, but FAU won't go until 2014 due to financial concerns.

This alleviates Sun Belt scheduling issues as they would still be at 9 and play an 8 game round robin schedule opposed to this years 8 game, miss 1 team schedule.

CUSA would have unbalanced divisions for a year but there's really not a whole lot of harm in that.

I think we will allow Tulane to leave early to balance the divisions. That way Rutgers can leave early to go to the Big 10.

So MT would be in the West for a year in that scenario I am guessing? Seems like Tech is locked in for the East as they are taking over Memphis schedule if I recall correctly.

So it would be

East:
Southern Miss
Marshall
UAB
La Tech
FIU
ECU

West:
Tulsa
UTEP
Rice
NT
UTSA
MTSU

Is that correct or has ODU moved up their join date as well?

Any chance FAU cannot afford to make the move?

I think they make the move, but not until 2014.

I don't think MT in 2013 hinges on anything but us. I doubt Tulane or ECU will be "allowed" out early just because of the backlash from the other one. My guess is that scheduling will be redesigned totally to accomodate unbalanced divisions. MT in the West just sounds ridiculous.

A split of an entire conference would be somewhat unprecedented.. I think a new conference can and will be formed. Some of the current CUSA schools shouldn't get too comfortable - maybe even some of the very recent additions (i.e. ODU).

Some ECU posters are funny! One kat indicated they had one foot out of the door for ten years...wow and they were supposedly early members or founders if memory serves me correctly. All this re-alignment brings out folks true colors. Everyone wants to be on the up and up. i remember how they bashed UCF talking about the nBE. now look at em .. **** is amazing..dem *******

Is it considered bad karma (or maybe even bad taste) to bring marshmellows and skewer sticks to a dumpster fire?

We might even spring for the Hershey's and graham crackers just to get the hell out of Benson's garage conference ASAP.

If so, we'll definitely bring a lot of alcohol. Cool?

There is a reason why new conferences arent formed every other day. Any new conference coming from the remains of the Big East and any combination of CUSA MWC MAC or Sunbelt teams is going to be fighting up hill with a 10 ton weight tied around their neck. No new auto bids per the NCAA, having to negotiate a new tv and bowl contracts. All new administration not to mention the initial investment to establish a conference. Sure maybe it could happen but it wouldnt be easy.

Any chance that the NCAA bends the rules to allow a new conference to be formed bereft of penalty?

I mean, they allowed this mess to be created.

I doubt it. The NCAA only bends the rules when it benefits the likes of UNC, Bamma, etc.

Someone needs to hit the freaking reset button on college football. Can't we please just have somewhat regional conferences with like minded universities? ie football first conferences full of schools that are rabid about football, the same for basketball. Conferences made up from teams from the same half of the country if not the same time zone?

If it weren't for the BCS and TV money, college football would be fantastic.
