RE: $60-70 Million to Upgrade Nippert
The University of Cincinnati will launch a private fund-raising drive later this month for a $60 million to $70 million renovation of Nippert Stadium.

UC President Santa Ono said he didn’t promise the renovation to new football coach Tommy Tuberville but that it would capitalize on the momentum of the lightning-quick hire and make UC more attractive to other conferences.

“I didn’t say, ‘I promise you X,’ ” Ono said. “I didn’t even say that to Butch Jones.”

As for the Atlantic Coast Conference, which UC is looking to join: “I know what they were looking for from us. The things that we’re doing are aggressive addressing those concerns.”

Tuberville appeared before UC trustees Tuesday.

“Really, I’m not just a football coach,” he said. “I’m a salesman. I’m gonna sell the football program and the university ... This is not going to be a hard sell.”

Athletic Director Whit Babcock said he hadn’t even committed a salary range for Tuberville to paper, much less negotiated a full contract.

But Ono said it won’t be any more than UC was prepared to pay the $1.6 million that former coach Jones would have earned he had stayed.

The Tuberville appointment and a potential jump-start to the Nippert Stadium project are the latest in an eventful two weeks for UC athletics.

First the ACC rebuffed its attempts to join, then Jones was courted by several universities before leaving for Tennessee, then Babcock shocked the college football world by hiring Tuberville from Texas Tech.

“I’m just incredibly excited,” Ono said. “You should see my e-mails right now. There’s incredible excitement. This is a clear signal to the world that we are serious.”

You can also open up a private viewing window in IE and just use that to view the enquirer.

There you have it...the PBS debate is over

$70million luxury press box...hope its not another $70million to get our seating to more than 40k

I guess what you should ask yourself is, would you pay $70million for a 40,000 seat stadium...certainly we have seen many other schools who have paid much less, and got much more. Hope we have some smart people making decisions THIS TIME around

I assumed he was hoping that money would go to the basketball program.

Well lets see, we have been waiting 5 years for this sooooo...drawings, plans, options, phase breakdown, renderings, major gift announcement, quotes, timelines, plan of action, donation page.....

There are a few options I think I would like to see...at least a few of them...I see none of the above and really nothing more than we have had up to this point.

Not to mention, no talk of the horrible basketball arena being addressed and the astronomical cost associated with that

1) This is a Cliff Peale article related to the BOT meeting.

2) The official announcement with plans from Whit and Ono will come later this month per the article.

3) Expect the talk show buffoons to keep talking about PBS vs Nippert and for them to be very negative about Nippert.

The other thing I noticed was that Ono indicated Tuberville will be paid no more than the $1.6M that Jones was scheduled to make this year. Earlier reports of $3M per year wrong?

I would think that they are going to release some plans/drawings in the near future. Just to help get the donors on board. People like to see where their money is going to.

The Shoe is a dump and they elect to raise funds for a temporary fix to an outdated football stadium?

Hopefully this doesn't turn out to be a huge waste of money. I don't think a renovated Nippert does much to elevate the conference realignment profile and you still have the issue that casual fans prefer PBS.

Lance's poll question that has been up for a few days...

I'd be more inclined to attend a UC football game at...
Renovated Nippert Stadium - 38.52%
PBS - 61.48%

I'm betting Cliff Peale misunderstood Ono. Whit and Ono already went to Butch with a raise, so my guess is Ono said they won't be paying Tommy more than they planned on playing Butch.

That was not what Ono said. He said Tuberville will get paid no more than they offered Jones. Big Difference. Jones declined UC's offer and went to Tennessee.

As many others have stated, if improving Nippert wouldn't help UC move to another conference, Whit and Ono wouldn't be focusing on it.
