MyBB Memphis "3-Guard Rotations" through the years...
It seems that many folks here, for whatever reason, want to keep the 3-guard "small ball" rotation going.

Let me try to put some things into perspective, hopefully showing that the current Tiger team are well overdue for some changes. With the emergance of Geron and Shaq those changes are availible.

07-08, National Championship:

Anderson -- 29.5 min/gm
Rose -- 29.2 min/gm
CDR -- 28.7 min/gm

No other guards above 15.0 min/gm

08-09, Sweet 16 (Elite 8 worthy)

Anderson -- 34.3 min/gm
Tyreke -- 29.0 min/gm
D. Mack -- 25.1 min/gm
R. Sallie -- 15.3 min/gm

No other guards above 15.0 min/gm

10-11, 1st Round NCAA

Will Barton -- 30.6 min/gm
C. Crawford -- 26.3 min/gm
A. Barton -- 24.6 min/gm
Carmouche -- 24.7 min/gm
Joe -- 21.9 min/gm

All guards above 15.0 min/gm

Will Barton is gone, but now we have play-making stud Geron. Neither Joe, Chris, nor A. Barton are good enough to have two of them on the court with Geron (as a game plan). This is especially true considering that we FINALLY have two quality bigs in Tarik and Shaq.

With Geron at PG I think this current backcourt can finally be spoken of in the same breath as those wonderful 2008 and 2009 teams (gaining similar success). But they need to be given the opportunity to build cohesion as a group.

12-13 ?

Geron
Chris/Joe
Adonis

And leave our fastest player and best free throw shooter on the bench?

Right -- you don't sit Jackson now --- not the way he's playing at SG.

Yep, Jackson and Johnson together could be a matchup nightmare for other teams due to their speed and athletic ability.

Yep. I don't know that's so hard for some folks to figure out.

It is college. I'd rather have him in there instead of a 6-7 240 lb guy that rarely gets a rebound. At least he can beat someone off the dribble.

Joe Jackson is 6'0 170 not 5'10 160.

Andre Turner was 5-10, Chris Garner was 5-9 and Elliot Perry was barely over 6 foot.

Well Elliot was. The others weren't. Joe still plays the point about half the time, I don't care what Josh or anyone else says. Like I've said a gazillion times that point guard/ two guard stuff is way overblown. Elliot scored 2000 points in his career. Penny ran the point a lot at 6-7. Geron is 6-3 and built. He fits well with Joe's speed.

It is what it is. I see what the OP was trying to say with us now playing 4 small guards significant mins.

I also remember all of us fans pointing out Memphis claim to fame in this day n age was having big guards.... remember the drubbing our guards gave the little guards of Texas (DJ Augustine and that ultra small 2 guard). Those poor guys had no choice but to alter their shot everytime w/Rose and AA in their grill. Now, as fans, we're back to rooting for such a small backcourt.

Also, w/aspirations to go pro (NBA) it'd behoove JJ to run point (there is and will only be one AI). Nonetheless, I'm rolling w/the team and hopefully they can make whatever lineup they choose to go with work.

2 starting guards for L ville stretch to 6'. Those tall guards could kill our puny 'uns.

I've never considered Bobby Parks a guard, but perhaps that's just a mindset for me.

Joe Jackson is listed at 6'0". It's generous, to say the least.

Joe, Chris and Tarik have played over 70 games together.

Adonis is a future first rounder.

Shaq is by far our best bet for our second post behind Tarik.

Joe
Chris
Adonis
Shaq
Tarik

That's our starting 5 and we need to stick to it. The players who have started the season slow won't get the continuity they need to get comfortable if they're being shuffled in and out.
