ESPN SC NCAAF - Bobby Petrino agrees to deal to be Western Kentucky's next head coach, a source tells ESPN's Joe Schad

gotta give WKU props then, this shows they're really serious about their FB program moving forward in the future (again, to me Petrino was the best non-hired coach out there..).

If they never make the move to a different conference, they could pretty much IMO, run roughshod over the rest of them SunBelters..

That was fast! Will be interesting to see how they do.

Wow. Petrino was good at Arkansas, he'll be great at WKU. Hoping WKU is the next to CUSA now...

I'm not rooting for this to blow up in their face, but if it does you can believe a lot of MT fans will enjoy it.

You have to think that petrinos time @ louisville plays into this. Got to wonder if he still has recruiting ties in the state.

I have to admire how quick they made a move. At MT they'd have to post the job for three or four weeks, then interview a diverse number of candidates, before offering. It takes at least a month to do a hire.

Saw it mentioned somewhere that his buyout would be $1 million, but haven't seen it confirmed. If I'm WKU I go higher than that, but that's just me.

It's a solid hire for one season. He is going to leave for a better job such as in the SEC after 1 year (2 max).

WKU fans seem pretty revved up about this hire. Everyone will take a backseat to him in the Sun Belt.

I think he'll do wheelie well.

Rivalries die hard. I'm happy for the school, great hire for the short term at least.

Believe me, there's few, if any WKU fans that think he'll stay long at all. 1, 2, 3 years at the longest is my guess. Heck, Taggart was a star player for WKU and alumni. He only stayed 3 years. What's really enticing to me is that we have a good core of athletes who will think twice now about defecting since Taggart left so I'm hopeful about next year. It'll be interesting to see what he can do on the recruitment trail now.

According to what I read.. if Petrino leaves early in ANY year of the contract, he has to pay $1.2Million back to the school.

So I think you've got him at least 2 years with no worries, and a lot can be done in two years.

It just shows how far college football has sunk with it's standards. I am very happy that Southern Miss did not hire Petrino. Instead we get Monken. Great news! It also shows how or society has dropped with it's morals to even want a coach like Petrino so quickly after his latest episode at Arkansas. Sad.

I think you guys will have him for at least 3-4 years. He's gonna have to do some time in purgatory (no offense to WKU, there, any of us would be considered similarly). Remember, it wasn't just that he wrecked on the motorcycle with a woman with which he was having an affair. He had also gotten her a high paid job that's basic description came down to "blow up doll" at the university.

It's now "Safety First" at Western Ky. with Petrino in town :
