Mercer 5-5 after first 10 games
Mercer is 5-5 after 10 games this season. 3-5 against Division I opponents. This team is Preseason #1, and so far the results are mixed. I've watched the games I could, and listed to the ones with no video. Mercer has shown they are capable of being that #1 team by beating Florida State, routing Furman, and having Wake Forest and George Mason on the ropes.
The biggest problem this year are these lulls of scoring. It's become a noticeable problem where Mercer goes long stretches of clock without putting any points up. The team has all the pieces, but the lack of a pure scorer shows during these lulls.
All the pieces are there to be a championship team, but without a pure scorer the D has to be even tougher.
It will be interesting to see how the remainder of the year plays out. This team is much better than their 5-5 record would indicate. They have the ability to be special and pick up a few more big non-conference wins. The D is there. They are improving their ball handling/turnover rate. Free throws have been fantastic, including all 3 big guys being able to hit them. Just waiting for a complete game on offense, because when that happens they'll be unbeatable against most DI opponents.
