smh

Isn't blaming the players something Capel did just before his firing?

I know Painter had a good game, but I still come away thinking he is much better 10 feet away from the basket then underneath it. The guy constantly tries (and misses) reverse lay-ups. Between him and Wright they can't buy a lay up or put back. Thank goddness for Ross.
Still and all a mugh better effort tonight. Last nights team looks capable of winning a few.

RE: VCU game thread
The team is horrific........next year wont be much better after Blaine ruins Bacote and Batten ( he will break them down its in his DNA)
The lack of recruiting caused it.......more specifically Blaine looking elsewhere and taking his eye of the prize
Blaine couldnt run an efficient offense set if it involved a drinking game
We will NEVER get over the hump with him.........we wouldnt have to recruit "diamond in the rough" type players if the athletes of today's generation wanted to play in this system

We should be BETTER than VCU........better stadium, 757 talent right in our backyard, more money, previously we had more national successetc.... I said it on the other board and got ripped but VCU has just passed us by. They are loaded and will only get better and better.

As much as it hurts to say all that Im just calling it like it is

Blaine has already ruined Batten and Bacote. Batten was a tough nut to crack as it took over a year, but he made quick work of Bacote over the course of a few games.

The worst part is we (the fans who actually pay attention and know blaines M.O.) saw it coming from a mile away and it didn't even take half a season.
Now Clark is starting to improve and look better.

I wonder how long before blaine starts to break him down too and make him start questioning every move he makes on the court?

I have never in my life seen too this kind of regression in players under a coach. Really, with the exception of Hassell and Coop, every player Blaine has coached that looked like a potential star has gotten statistically worse over the years in Blaine's system. Loughton, Hunter, Dahi, B Johnson, Neely, Lidonde, Finney, Bazemore, and now Batten. Had enough of it.

I would strongly disagree about Bazemore

I tend to agree, but with that said, every player listed aside from Batten, who is still playing, had a senior year that was significantly worse than their junior year.

RE: VCU game thread
Agreed baze was the only one who got better every year but that was probably more that a. Baze is a special kid/player who was basically "Blaine proof" (although his %'s did in fact drop his senior year) but more that b. All the other contributing players left, hassell, Carter, finney, James etc. so he basically HAD to improve statistically.

Considering he was was starting in the backcourt with freaking de lancey and sometimes trian, he was forced to take shot after shot so of course his stats would improve by virtue of his increased role in the offense from "option b. Or c. To options a. B. And c."

but the facts are the facts......players regress under Blaine Taylor, even all caa players like loughton.

I've seen enough to know we need to go in a new direction.

Just look at Illinois. They got rid of Bruce weber, a guy who took them to the national championship game and won several big 10 titles and replaced him with a young hungry coach named John groce. Groce was the head coach at Ohio, he lead the bobcats to back to back NCAA tourneys and they even managed to upset Georgetown in the tourney.

He's taken a team that missed the tourney last year and currently has them undefeated and ranked in the top 10 after they beat butler to win the Maui invitational and they just went to #10 gonzaga and won convincingly on the road.

A young hungry coach is exactly what these young players need. Not an old washed up coach more interested in breaking them down to "rebuild them" instead of just changing his strategy and playing to their strengths. He still can't find a single decent big man to come play here next year......a change needs to be made. This program can't sustain it's 5th straight recruiting class with no viable big man in it.

He missed on Khyle Marshall, he missed on DFS, he even missed on a guy who actually WANTED to come here in briante freaking weber by failing to take him, instead chiding breon freaking key who isn't even here anymore.

Disgusting how bad of a recruiter he is without guys like krystowiak and Richardson to find studs for him. He's missing all over the place and 1-8 is a direct result of that. We aren't rebuilding, we've collapsed as a program. We still have no big men outside of a project redshift freshman for next year.

Time to make a change.

RE: VCU game thread
I was actually surprised to see that Baze did in fact put up bigger numbers his senior year. He clearly wasn't the same player as the senior year lacked all the chase down blocks and break away/monster dunks. He probably averaged one a piece per game his junior year. Of course the injury played a role so I should have left his name off the list anyway. Taylor gets a pass on Dahi as well has he was never right after the ACL.
