Distance from stadium to major airport (DFW or Nashville Intl):

MTSU - 47 (Nashville)

I've lived all over Rutherford county, and there's no possible way it's 47 miles from Murfreesboro to Nashville airport. I just googled it, it's 29 miles up the M'boro Road (and from someone who drove that every single day for a decade, it's faster than 24 90% of the time)

If someone wants to get picky that MTSU is not in Nashville proper, so be it.

For me, it's all about the caliber of universities we're associated with. USM has toiled for decades to distance itself from the no-names in the Sun Belt. In the 80s and 90s, we succeeded. Now, we're failing.

No crackerbox suite-heavy stadium, cute little regional rivalry, or masturbatory bowl game will appease me, and I'm not the only one who feels this way.

I read a lot of posts by people from the newcomer schools, and they exhibit a sort of limited optimism. Yeah, I have no doubt that if we just stick around in CUSA we'll improve, in a way. Rivalries will develop. Facilities will get expanded. Attendance will improve.

I believe most of that, but I don't care. I want USM to compete nationally.

Those recruits you might want from Florida might feel differently. I bet your players will definately feel differently re a visit to South Beach vs Logan, Utah.

Fair enough, I don't believe anything I can say will sway you. I will say that I think if USM stays - that in 10 years once a lot of these baby programs get on their feet, you'll be thankful you dodged that far west bullet.

Google doesn't lie, but I may make transcription errors... google says 41 minutes, not 47. I really have no idea, as the only time I've stopped in Nashville was to go to the Tennessee aquarium, driving up from Atlanta, which, as it happens is also not in Nashville.

I'd like to see:

1) Big 5 stays the way they are...
2) Big East adds Fresno State (football only, other sports to Big West)
3) MWC adds Tulsa, UTEP, and Rice...
4) CUSA adds either 1 or 3 members from the Belt/MAC

and the crap ends for awhile.

You have to understand where we're coming from. We were Boise before there was Boise. We finished 10th in 1999... You've heard all that. We had an incompetent baffoon for an AD at that time who stayed way too long. Now we're here, with USM likely headed to the west division. Our biggest rivals UCF and ECU are moving on. We've burned all bridges that lead back to the MAC, and it really looks like CUSA could be on its last legs if certain things fall a certain way (unlikely but possible). It is almost to the point where if CUSA folds, I don't know if the SB takes us. We would have to hold out hope on a new eastern conference to be formed. And I don't think that happens.

Thought I would help out you Google Maps challenged folk. Airports only about 25 mi to all the new hotels. Oh my god. That's like a half hour on a bus. Maybe we should just withdraw from C-USA now to save face before someone figures this out.

31.2 mi,

Middle Tennessee Blvd
1. Head south on Middle Tennessee Blvd toward E Lytle St 0.1 mi

Continue to follow TN-96 W 1.9 mi
5. Merge onto I-24 W via the ramp to Nashville 22.2 mi
6. Take exit 56 for TN-255/Harding Pl 0.3 mi
7. Turn right onto TN-255 N/Harding Pl 1.1 mi

You drive from Atlanta to the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga, and went through Nashville?

You really really really need a Garmin.

That said, traffic plays a big part. I lived on MT's campus in college and worked at a Roadway breakbulk virtually across the road from BNA and made it in 25-30 mins (or even better) at non-peak times. However, during rush our in and out of Nashville, I could totally see 45 minutes.

The point remains, I feel confident in saying that anyone visiting Murfreesboro for an athletic even will find it very easy to experience Nashville.

Regardless of what happens, we UTEP fans need to realize we need to take care of UTEP first and then the rest will be taken care of. We have to start winning in football, start beating BCS schools and win bowl games, motivate our fanbase again, pack the Sun Bowl and The Don, keep recruiting in basketball at the same rate Floyd is doing it now, make the NCAA Tourney on a regular basis and become a Tier One university which is the university's main goal. Perhaps staying in C-USA will give us the platform we need to move forward in both revenue sports.

If we get stuck in this conference, all those things you mention become moot. The fan base will disappear, and so will the exposure and revenue.

I for one may lose interest in college sports if this happens. I certainly won't pay money to watch UTEP play teams like UTSA and MTSU on a regular basis. Probably wouldn't bother to watch on the off chance such games wound up on tv either....

yeah, I don't buy that either...I doubt SDSU and Boise want to go back to the MWC for 800k a year.

I live in California, work in San Diego, and spend significant time with SDSU Alums. We were talking today actually about realignment. They are not nearly as excited about this version of the Big East as the one they initially signed up for. One booster in particular said there are a lot of rumblings among alumni that the move isn't looking good anymore. Add to that they are not excited about what the Big West does to their basketball. These are guys that regularly travel to basketball and football games, and have season tickets for both.

I'm not saying they ARE going back. What I am saying is that if the money isn't as huge as was promised, the travel east and the crappy basketball schedule could be enough to convince them to try to remain in the MTN.

Again, this is based on conversations today, and is not my opinion. Just relaying a conversation.

UTEP
Tulsa
USM
Rice
LaTech
Arkansas State
NMSU
Texas State/UTSA

For 10
ULL
MTSU

For 12
ULM

With a strong 8 we I think we can sway UNM & Nevada for 9 n 10
Because current MWC is undesirable

Why would Tulsa and UTEP go into a conference making less money than CUSA? It would be a lateral move at best. The MWC TV contract doesnt expire until 2016. Even if SDSU and Boise St renig on the nBE deal that still leaves them making 800K for 4 more years. That doesn't seem like an ideal situation.
