Dennis Dodd: Big East deal could be worth as little as $60 million per year
CBSSports.com reported earlier that Big East members were told by former commissioner John Marinatto that a new contract would be worth $10 million-$20 million more (per year per school) than what the Big East is currently getting. That was before instability and defections affected the conference.

Still more than we're currently making, no?

Also, I'd imagine those numbers include UConn and Cincy.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

BE TV numbers

The defining question is how much does the non football schools get? If their share is anything under $12 Million Total, then it's still a good deal. If not, then the added travel will eat up the profits for Boise St & San Diego St

Big east is on a life line. They will make more than CUSA or the Mtn West but when/if the basketball schools pull away they will make about the same.

Realistically I'm hoping for $4 million per year. That is a pretty bad number for USF and Cincy, but for UCF that is 4x what the C-USA was paying.

That's if the money is split equally.. the "older schools" might be wondering why the new arrivals are getting as much money as they are earning?

Right now.. the best distribution I could calculate (and I gave them the benefit of the $80m number) was something like $4.5M for all sports, $3.85 for BB only, $3.3M for FB only (but again that was just off the top of my head).

So basically if you're coming in as an All-Sports member, you're getting hosed... Because you know the BB onlies aren't going to want equal distribution where All-sports get an equal partition of what the Basketball+Football Onlies values get.

I hear the BE may only get a doz roses and a box of chocolates for each school along with a nice Timex, for the school prez.

Nothing like a bunch of idiots just throwing crap out there with 0 knowledge of what is or isn't happening.

My neighbor thinks the BE will sign for 300 billion over 6 years. and he stayed at a Holiday Inn last night.

Would the BE members be OK with a tier system?

Level 1: Old all-sports
Level 2: New all-sports
Level 3: Old non-football
Level 4: New football-only

New FB-only would still get a lot more than from current CUSA/MWC
Old all-sports and non-football would get relatively more, in attempt to quell leaving as easily.

"That gives the league 15 football-playing schools when Navy joins in 2015. Using the figures described above, that would mean the average payout per school of $4 million-$5.3 million per year."

Wow.....talk about a punch to the gut to all the schools who paid 12 Million to leave CUSA (7 Million exit, 5 Million entry into Big East). Add another school (or lose Uconn/Cincy) and that payout becomes even smaller. Football only members are expected to receive less than half that of a full member. Probably in the 1.5-1.8 range.

Just to put his in perspective.....CUSA's 5 year deal when signed was in the 70 Million range total between CBS and Fox.

Screw giving the old all sports members anything extra. There is nothing we could offer that would keep UConn or Cincy from accepting an ACC invite if it ever came.

Split it up evenly, and if USF or Villanova think they can get more somewhere else let them go. They'll be in for a reality check when they see the Big East is the best they can get.

I do not think anyone will really pay $12 to move from C-USA to the Big East. Those things always have a way of being negociated. No doubt that the future Big East payout will be less than what it was but it is also true that it will be significantly more than what the future C-USA will get. We are all getting crumbs but you have to at least try and get the biggest piece you can.

I didn't...... but I'm willing to bet you a cold one at the last Marshall-ECU game that CUSA takes a pay cut

The $5.3 is the best case scenario for full members. With the future loss of UConn almost certain, that high end number will fall as well. And lets not forget, these numbers increase the likelihood that Boise and SDSU are going back to the MWC. Did you think its coincidence that the MWC is talking about expansion again? There is a reason for everything. Boise and SDSU will never play a down in the Big East.
