over/under on Fuente
Setting the over/under at 5 years. Question is will we be able to hold on to him after 5 years if he continues to improve the program? Unless he has a break out 11-1 or 12-0 season then it will take at least three winning seasons to get the interest of the big 5 conference schools. I see that happening around years 4 or 5.

Under is my guess. The ability to recruit is a question that needs to be answered.

If he gets us bowling in the Big East next year it will cost us a good amount of money to keep him.

I don't spend one second worrying about it because if he were to leave, it would be due to his success. That allows us to hire someone when we are in a good place which would attract good candidates. It has a long time since Memphis was in that spot for football. The Pancoast/Williamson transition in the 70's is it. Nothing else even passes the smell test.

If Fuente has a better than expected year next year, winning 8 or 9 games...

He might get offers after next season.

If this team carries the momentum from the end of this year into next year and we continue to win.He will get offers at the end of next year. I just hope we can hold him until a big time offer comes like from a LSU or Bama type. I don't want to lose him to a Colorado or Cal or Miss State.

I would place my money on 5 seasons here before we have to hire his replacement...and I predict its on his terms, and not ours.

...but that would be a good thing...

Over. Gary Patterson has been at TCU for 14 years 12 as Head Coach. Memphis loves a winner and has the infrastructure to pay as we will need too. Going to a "bigger" job is not always the best decision. Gene Chizik won a National Championship in 2010 and as of today is out of coaching..

I'd like to become one of those schools that's constantly getting coaches a better job. It beats being a dead end career ender.

What if someone, .......say.... Wisconsin, saw the genius in him and hired him now to replace their guy that just got hired by Arkansas? Would you not have a problem with it then?
