Here is the list of offers by Haynes/Hazell for Kent State football program through today, 01/23/13:

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/footba...order/true

Still some intriguing potential recruits available on that offer list if it is accurate.....

This past weekend, Paul Haynes/staff hosted 10 visitors (potential recruits and/or verbal commitments) and they attended the Kent State vs Akron mens bball game.

As of this morning, Paul Haynes/staff now have 11 commitments (per espn.com). The 2 new commitments are Terence Waugh, DE from McDonough GA and Darius Redmond, OLB from Miami FL.
link to espn.com's KSU commitment list: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/footba...order/true

Keep 'em coming!!!! I love the fact that we busted out the Wagon Wheel at HT of the Akron game!! Really liking what I'm seeing out of this class so far can't wait to see the final list next month :-D

BTW Is the weight a typo on that Seibert OLB Kid??? 196 lbs!???? I would say that's OK for a high school LB, but a D1A college???? Hope we can bulk him up a bit lol

shakermaker,

That weight is probably before his junior year. I would highly doubt that is what he weighs today and that is the joy of mid-major recruiting, it doesnt get updated with accurate information frequently, if at all. espn.com lists him @ 6'4" 196lbs, 247sports.com lists him @ 6'4" 205lbs, & scout.com lists him @ 6'4" 209lbs, so which 1 is it? 01-lauramac2

OK, thanks for the clarification. 209 lbs would indeed be moving in the right direction- if that is the correct number lol

Here is Paul Haynes/staff newest commit for the 2013 recruiting class: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/footba...is-overton

Great to see them tapping a local powerhouse for recruits.

Nice article from http://www.scout.com on Overton's commitment to KSU. 3 key points from the article (http://kentstate.scout.com/2/1261870.html), he was a threat to score every time he touched the ball this year, he is 1 of the top students academically @ Glenville, and he runs track for Glenville. Welcome to the Kent State family Chris Overton!

I'd love to see Kent develop Glenville for skill-position athletes....one of the top high schools in the country for such talent. Get the skilled guys from Glenville and the OL from Iggies and the Youngstown powers, and I'll be a happy camper. It is sooooo nice to see Kent hire Ohio-based head coaches that know the local high schools....it's such an easier sell rather than watching previous head coaches such as Pees and Martin forsake Ohio high schools for the greater DC and Virginia areas. We pulled some great talent out of there....but not enough to fill-out an 85 man roster.

Regarding the 196 lb. linebacker that was signed; he is a little on the small side, but I bet he's really fast. To put it in perspective, OSU has been signing 210 lbs coming out of high school such as Ryan Shazier. Put them on the outside and let them cover RB's and TE's and rush the QB.

Overton sounds like Dri Archer II! 04-rock

Nice get and I too would like to see us tap Cleveland and Cincy's bigs. Looks like Coach Haynes is keeping the ball rolling rather nicely!

I like that we're finally getting kids from Glenville. I like how we're hitting Ohio hard. But Pennsylvania also has a ton of talent and isn't that far away. I'd also like to see us get back to Hargrave to grab some kids.

Added a 3* de-commit from Cincy today; that makes 2 compliments of Flubberville/Cincy. We seem to be putting together a great class. Kudos to Haynes/Hazell and staff for some great work. Excited to see the whom class announced next Wednesday.

RE: Kent State Football Recruiting Class 2013
Here are a few updates for this recruiting class:
Paul Haynes/staff picked up another commitment, Demetrius Monday an athlete from Mableton GA. Here is the link to http://www.espn.com: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/footba...ius-monday

Here is the espn.com insider scouting report on Monday:
Scouting Report ESPN Analyst - Updated 01/29/2013

Monday is productive as both a defensive back and wide receiver. Has the size with enough athleticism for either position at the major level of competition; over time his frame should be able to support additional bulk. Playing strength and speed will need to improve. The tackling skills we see should allow for success as a special team's coverage defender. This prospect demonstrates good zone coverage skills; can play soft or jump underneath routes; appears to have some trouble when forced to turn and run with outside speed; does a very good of jamming receivers and disrupting their release. We like his range and ball skills. At this stage of his development we don't see lock down man coverage skills. As a wide receiver this prospect shows good quickness releasing off the line; can beat press coverage and does a good job running short/medium routes; is a smart receiver, demonstrating the ability to settle into open areas and not cover himself. Has relaxed, natural hands displaying the athleticism to jump and make the high, out of the frame catch. Although lacking a burst or second gear his awareness and quick feet allow him to gain good after catch yardage. This guy is a tough competitor who should be able to contribute on either side of the ball. Monday appears to be a border line BCS player needing some time and perhaps a red shirt year if he is to compete successfully at the major level of competition.

Notes
Decommitted from Cincinnati in January 2013... Committed June 2012... Previously attended Arlington Christian...

Nice to see us nab that Monday kid!

Also looks like 6 out of the 13 so far are Ohio (5)/PA(1), which I like to see. Hopefully we can nab some more homegrown kids from now til signing day and get that number above the 50% mark.

All and all like what I'm seeing so far though :-)

The thing that isn't cool, is that they rank us the 9th best class in the MAC and 112 in the nation. That's not very good.

If there were ever a correlation between recruiting rankings and success on the field, I would care. Not only do the individual rankings rarely show future success, team rankings have proven to be even more meaningless. People do love their lists and rankings, though.

Those are based on total points, so it appears so bad right now because so many schools are reporting more verbals. Obviously the more players you have the higher score you will also have. If you run the MAC rankings by average score/player we're 3rd behind Toledo and NIU. I think our class is shaping up nicely, good quality players and a nice blend of positions.

Looks like Syracuse came in and swooped up former KSU verbal commit, TE Aaron Batten.

No surprise, I wouldn't doubt the former Cincy verbals get plucked either. Verbals for MAC schools are so bogus until pen hits paper I'm always expecting the top recruits to get swept away by bigger schools as they make room and hoard signings.

Agree with axeme. Recruiting ranking and stars don't mean much. Just get OKGs.

Looks like, according to 247sports.com, the Mychael Taylor 3 start ATH from Reynoldsburg OH has flipped from KSU to the Zits.

Newest KSU Commitment - Ryan Malone, TE from Louisana.

Here is the link to Ryan Malone's player page with AT&T: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/footba...yan-malone

Ryan Malone (Covington, La./St. Paul's), a tight end / H-back / fullback, has pledged to sign with Kent State, the Times-Picayune reports. Louisiana-Lafayette and Tulane also recruited the 6-foot-2, 225-pound prospect.

Malone caught 17 passes for 231 yards and 7 touchdowns and carried 39 times for 221 yards and 7 more scores as a senior, earning first team all-district recogntion.

"He's a very unselfish player," St. Paul's Coach Ken Sears told the Times-Picayune. "We asked him to play fullback when our regular fullback got injured and he rotated into that role as well. He's just very versatile and was great at doing what he needed to become successful."
