Kent State Football Recruiting Class 2013
Alright, I figured it isn't worth it to keep dwelling on Hazell's resignation from KSU, so I have posted the most up to date Kent State football recruiting class.....9 commits thus far, all solid talent, just have to wonder how many of these will stay committed to KSU and how many potential recruits are now swaying from either committing to KSU and/or looking @ KSU?

http://kentstate.247sports.com/Season/20...ll/Commits

I hope JN/LL can have Kent State's new head coach in place before Christmas, so that they can get have more 6 weeks to close out this recruiting class.

IMO, I feel the new KSU head coach needs to go after a JUCO LB(s) & OL(s), as those 2 positions have major holes to fill for starters/backups, but the rest of the class/positions can all be HS/Prep School, as the starters/backups at all other positions are ready to step in right away.

That Webb kid from Clairton, PA, was already looking to jump a week ago when Pitt offered. What other recruits stay on board obviously depends a lot on what coaches stay on staff and who gets the head coaching job.

OK, so we're rooting for Chryst to leave Pitt for Wisc.

He did just say he was committed to being the coach at Pitt but after I ran his comments through my CoachSpeak translator, it looks like he may be gone in the next 24 hours.

HERSHEY, Pa. -- Terrish Webb had a stellar game to help Clairton (Pa.) High beat Dunmore (Pa.) High 20-0 for the PIAA Class A title, and then he told FOXSportsNEXT his recruitment was open again after he de-committed from Kent State.[/align]

If all this KSU football excitement keeps up it looks as if I am going to have to keep selling my OSU/PSU season tickets and commit myself to ALL Kent games. Sold over half of my Bucks/Lions tickets this year to attend KSU games and couldn't have been happier. The shorter drive was nice as well.....

I invited many of my friends/family that are PSU fans to join me at a KSU game this year just so they could see what a top 25 team looked like. But most chose to sit in their stands and watch PSU football while they blamed the media for their problems in (Not so) Happy Valley.

Know what you mean. I have two close relatives who are PSU alumni and several more in the extended family. So sick of hearing about how St. Joe was done wrong and that the NCAA over reacted. The message was lost, but the entitlement attitude is alive and kicking for many PSU fans.

I have heard them blame the local newspaper breaking the story as well as media outlets for running it. Really? You blame ESPN? You don't think they'll cover such a story? They blamed the Governor, school officials, victims and everyone in between for the scandal and Joe's death. Somehow Joe was so fragile 11 years ago you couldn't explain sodomy to him yet he was brilliant enough to coach up that squad to shred the opponents to how many victories? They built up people to too lofty of status that it helped create such a culture. Unfortunate situation all around but the true victims are not whom the fans think.

RE: Kent State Football Recruiting Class 2013
Congrats Paul Haynes on your 1st recruit as Kent State head coach.

Here is the commit list from http://www.espn.com as of today: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/footba...class/2013

With the staff being complete so quickly and many of Hazell's assistants returning, I have a good feeling this will be a very good class as the coaching staff has many bullets to use (11 wins, played in MAC Championship, won MAC East, went to 1st bowl game in 40 yrs, playing @ LSU and Penn St next yr, beaten Akron 3 yrs in a row, etc.).

This is the 1st weekend of 4 remaining before signing day, so good luck Haynes/staff. Pure speculation, but I would have to think that this class would be about 18, 19, or 20 depending with Goode and Archer returning. The staff should be able to secure some LBs and OLs as there is immediate playing time to be had at those positions.

A 3* WR with size (6'3")? Just what the doctor ordered. He had a lot of schools chasing him too. Nice job. I'd also guess the recruiting was mostly done under Hazell with Haynes coming on strong as soon as he was able too. Good recruiting sign to follow up with a new sales pitch immediately that even though the HC departed the new one wants him badly and the same OC will still be there.

I'm also always skeptical of these verbals, they mean little until pen meets paper. This kid already verbaled to Cincy and then the new HC there pretty much discarded all verbals. I'm sure there will be some bigger programs hitting this kid up until signing day.

Totally agree with you Polish Hammer.

Here is some promising information from the mens bball article on the Akron loss, regarding Coach Haynes/football recruiting info:

New Kent State football coach Paul Haynes addressed the sellout crowd at halftime, and had several of his players -- including speedster Dri Archer -- roll out the Wagon Wheel. According to sources, 10 football recruits were on hand for Saturday's game.

Hopefully they get all 10 of them to commit, since it was a good atmosphere @ the MACC even with the loss to Akron. Good luck to Coach Haynes/staff as they host visitors the next 2 weekends and work to close out their 1st recruiting class!

Looks like we added a 3* LB today, great addition. I suspect we may get a couple more from this weekend.

Good size and ok speed for an ILB! Can't wait to see who else Coach Haynes brings to Kent. I walked into his office before the basketball game and welcomed him back to KSU. He was very down to earth and gave me a Kent Football t-shirt and told me he cant wait to get started but I think he's already gotten off to a great start. He sure is excited to be here.....

RE: Kent State Football Recruiting Class 2013
Thanks Polish Hammer. Yeah, Aaron Batten, TE from FL was 1 of the 10 visitors along with Redmond who committed. I hear Brock Macaulay is rated very high for an OL recruit (per JJHuddle website), eventhough he is listed as a TE. KSU has good depth @ TE with the 3 who played this year and the 2 that redshirted, but adding Batten would make that position very strong. LBs and OLs should be easy sells with the amount of players graduating or not performing up to snuff @ Kent. (3 LBs in this class already, but just 1 OL...)

Kent State mens bball hosts Ohio U this Saturday and EMU the following Saturday, so the home basketball environment should help Haynes/staff close some of these recruits vs there being no home bball games those weekends.

Did I read you right, 10 visitors committed? Or are the 10 commits we already have in for a visit this weekend? Rivals has Batten visiting Duke this past weekend, so it's nice to pry him away.

Sorry for the confusion Polish Hammer. Heading into the weekend, Kent State had 9 commitments (well, published online anyways). This past weekend, Paul Haynes/staff hosted 10 visitors (potential recruits and/or verbal commitments) and they attended the Kent State vs Akron mens bball game.

As of this morning, Paul Haynes/staff now have 11 commitments (per espn.com). The 2 new commitments are Terence Waugh, DE from McDonough GA and Darius Redmond, OLB from Miami FL.

Keep 'em coming!!!! I love the fact that we busted out the Wagon Wheel at HT of the Akron game!! Really liking what I'm seeing out of this class so far can't wait to see the final list next month :-D

BTW Is the weight a typo on that Seibert OLB Kid??? 196 lbs!???? I would say that's OK for a high school LB, but a D1A college???? Hope we can bulk him up a bit lol

shakermaker,

That weight is probably before his junior year. I would highly doubt that is what he weighs today and that is the joy of mid-major recruiting, it doesnt get updated with accurate information frequently, if at all. espn.com lists him @ 6'4" 196lbs, 247sports.com lists him @ 6'4" 205lbs, & scout.com lists him @ 6'4" 209lbs, so which 1 is it? 01-lauramac2

Move the total # of KSU verbal commitments for Haynes/staff to 12. The most recent commit is Aaron Batten, TE from Miami FL who visited last weekend.

Here is some information on him from espn.com:

Here is some information on him from 247sports.com:
