Shocking...!!! (sarcasm folks)... Rutgers sues Big East over exit fee, waiting period
entire article: Rutgers sues Big East over exit fee, waiting period

Quote:“The court should accordingly enter an order declaring the Bylaws to be void and of no effect as between the parties, permitting Rutgers to withdraw from The Big East prior to July 1, 2015, or in alternative, declaring that The Big East has waived Rutgers’ obligation to abide by the 27 months notice provision and the requirement of a withdrawal fee.”

Rutgers is suing to not have to pay the exit fee because the other schools didn't have to pay it. But at the same time they are suing for the money they didn't receive from the conference not collecting the money from the other schools. Brilliant!

I'm assuming they pled that in the alternative. Nothing wrong with throwing everything up against the legal wall in hopes something sticks.

West Virginia, Syracuse, and Pittsburgh settled for a lesser dollar amount, TCU had pay $5m without ever being member.

Conferences should make ALL universities abide by the rules of their agreement. If not schools will continue to bounce around.
