He certainly knows the difference of being around good coaches and bad coaches.

Quote:Haynes played for three different coaches at Kent State: Glen Mason, Dick Crum and Pete Cordelli

Yikes.

Great story and great fit for KSU! A former walk on who ranks 7th all-time in tackles becomes head coach at his alma mater....Already sent him a text to @PaulHaynes1 welcoming him home and congratulating him.

These people are in such a hurry to break news they don't get the facts right. Hopefully this is as wrong as I believe and Mr. Haynes is announced tomorrow.

That's a riot....19 Action News announced Paul Haynes last night. I am a School of Journalism alum from KSU and it's sad to see the state of the news media today!

A few weeks back I threw out YSU Head Coach Eric Wolford's name, but I didn't think he would interview after the disappointing 7-4 season, by YSU standards.

Needless to say, perhaps he did apply and was a finalist?

Nonetheless, nice hire with Haynes!

Not very familiar about Coach Haynes, but the fact that so many of you are high on this hire makes me feel great about it! I will say that I love the fact that he's alum!!!!!!!

I think JN must read this board. The Haynes hire will put the board at 3 of 3 on coaching hires. Hazell, Senderhoff and now Haynes for the top pick among us.

So why does Kent State not have a microphone for the media questions during a press conference, would be great to hear the questions so I can understand Coach Haynes answers, get with it Kent02-13-banana

Attended the presser, we have a Hazell clone and that is good. Guy is very genuine. Very good hire.

Dave, get those reporters under control, as a KSU rep. someone take charge and explain one question at a time and pass the microphone to them so we can hear what was asked, I will be glad to help out or is that the SIDs job01-lauramac2

Wish I could have attended! Having some of you guys there and hearing your take and confidence is telling. Now maybe Webb and some of the others will reconsider and/or be solidified in their decision.

Love the sincerity in his voice. One of the main points he made that I took away was when he said he doesn't want stories written about him but the team and he would let coach Hazell finish the job they started.

Not that easy... it happens at the professional level, too.
And if I'm worried about getting reporters under control during the press conference, then I'm not doing the job I was there to do.

That was my first time being on that side of a press conference, and from watching them I can tell you the people in sports information staff worked very hard just to make that press conference happen on a skeleton crew and on short notice. The director of sports information recently took another job so they are very short handed in that office and they were really hustling.

With several venues not available due to renovation over Christmas break, they worked all day and night just to find a site for the press conference that would allow for streaming. Their work and extra effort late into the night and all day on Thursday made it possible just for you to watch it online. It's sadly very easy for people to anonymously criticize the work of others, especially when they don't know what really is going on behind the scenes.

Who cares? Only wanted to listen to Coach Haynes anyway.
