Bump: (from coachingsearch.com)

Auburn: Auburn's 247 site is reporting that Ellis Johnson will interview today for the defensive coordinator job at Auburn.

Decent choice... good arguments to be made for/against. Plenty of names Auburn could have selected from (including Smart). Only time will tell if this was a wise decision or a squandered opportunity.

Why not?

ASU hired an assistant to be their head coach. API hired their head coach.

I'm just glad it appears Arkansas has scratched their itch for what appears to be the long term (or whatever counts as long term in the bigga time coaching world).

Meanwhile the Red Wolves have lost Freeze and Malzahn in successive years. Who do they hire next?

I wouldn't be suprised to see Rhett Lashlee get a shot as the head coach.

You mad bro?
Nobody wants to hear about uat. Tell you want, go put on your crimson and white and stroll over to tide prided and let us have a civil discusion.

But on the subject, wonder how Chizik is feeling now? Not to mention how akward is it gonna be when he fires Trooper Taylor and some of the guys who think they stillhave a job?

Has anyone heard anything about Peturdo. Word is USM is courting him.

Yes and we have promised him a reserved spot for his Harley and chairmanship of the cheerleading selection committee.

I remember Malzahn being quoted as saying "he's home",
(momma is in Arkansas), wanting to build a program etc.....you know they all say that. And I look around and we are going to pay a guy who "never" won a game $2+m. There's a problem here, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

I understand Malzhan hired Eloss as his DC. Southern Miss is off the hook for his buyout, if any.

Actually USM did not have that in his clause, so they still must pay him along with Auburn paying him.

Wow. They should go after their ex-AD for signing that deal.

RE: NBR: Auburn naming Gus Malzhan head coach
The word "loyalty" no longer has a place in the annals of college football, division 1-a. coaches can come and go as they please, while players have to submit dna samples and fingerprints to transfer. How in the world can a football coach these days look a recruit in the eye and use the word "loyalty?" Maybe they're actually saying "royalty" (as in $$$$) instead...

Death to the bcs...

Back to Malzhan: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nca...s=obinsite

"The guy's coached one year at Arkansas State.

In a program that was running pretty good when he got there.

Seven years ago, he was the head coach of an Arkansas high school team.

That's a body of work shaped more like an Olsen twin than a Kardashian." 03-lmfao

"See, this is the issue I had with the Gene Chizik hire four years ago. It wasn't just that you skipped over a more qualified black candidate at the time.

It was that you skipped over all qualified candidates to get to one who wasn't.

And you've just done it again."

RE: NBR: Auburn naming Gus Malzhan head coach
People talk like a major school's AD really makes the major sport's coaching decisions. Their instructions come straight from the "Big Money" boosters who essentially tell him, "We are filling your pockets with the funds to recruit Coach "X" and you had better come back with him or don't come back at all". The AD is just the out-front man for all those anonymous boosters who tolerate his decisions on minor (non-revenue) sports.

Mal Moore, for example, did not have the millions in his own bank account to sign Nick Saban. He was on that errand spending other people's money to go after the coach they had decided upon. The AD at Auburn is in the same "boat" in that he was taking orders from those who finance the AU Athletic Dept. Keep in mind that these "Big Money" folks have been wrong about their choices far more often than they have been right over the past several decades. Do you remember Mike Price or Rich Rodriguez(neither coached a single game at Bama), Mike DuBose, Terry Bowden, Mike Shula, etc.?
