RE: Wait until the Liberty Bowl provide their comments on the Tech situation
The Liberty Bowl is just wishing they had let the Compass Bowl have Vanderbilt last year. Southern Miss probably would have brought as many fans as Vandy did, and then the Liberty Bowl could have taken Ole Miss this year who would sell out the stadium.

Southern Miss probably would have ended up playing a 6-6 Pitt instead of 9-3 Cincy though, due to the SEC's agreement with the Liberty & Compass bowls. Basically if the SEC can't play in the Compass Bowl, they can move their Compass opponent to Liberty. So if Vandy was playing in the Compass Bowl they would have just kept Cincy there.

As for La Tech, they should have gotten the Liberty Bowl to extend a formal invitation before the MAC Championship. If the Liberty Bowl refused then you know they're holding out for Iowa State and you need to prepare a backup plan.

That is a serious violation of a verbal contract and certainally reflects poorly on the Liberty Bowl, their reputation, and every other team in the future will always wonder whether to associate with them.

The Liberty Bowl actually has no alternative now but to come clean and salvage whatever they can from this situation. I am sure their response is going to be very interesting.

Like how their suppose to treat both teams/conferences equal but the SEC gets special treatment?

The contractually obligated, that all parties agreed to, travesty?

Even though you are correct, i think its law in Hattiesburg for us to ***** about the liberty bowl situation last year. Look it up. They took r jobs.

it appears that the liberty bowl really didn't want La Tech, but would have settled on them if they had no better option. La Tech didn't really want the independence bowl, but would have gone if they had no other choice.

. . . and everyone got their first wish.

that's the notorious downside of allowing yourself to become primarily concerned with what you don't want to happen.

Vandy had a large contingent at the LB last year. The LB does not regret taking them.

The Liberty Bowl is run by crooks. It'd be fine with me if USM took down our Liberty Bowl banners and never went back to that crap stadium.

Well, that changes everything, now doesn't it?

I know some...especially jaded USM fans...love to hate the LB after choosing Cincinnati over USM last year (contractually allowed, and even necessary from what I've been told once or twice). Bt this sounds like LT miscalculating the odds of NIU going to the Orange and being guilty of letting the bird in hand (Independence Bowl) fly away to pursue the two in the bush (Liberty Bowl).

It was a calculated risk...and a sting older Memphis fans have felt before. We went 9-0-1 and didn't go bowling one year.

There was a verbal given by Liberty after Indy gave deadline on Saturday . This claim was backed by WAC commissioner.

Should have went ahead and requested formal invite then from Liberty.
