FAU and MTSU in CUSA for 2013. How?
FAU and MTSU in CUSA for 2013. How?

I've read on a few threads that people keep talking about FAU and MTSU possibly playing in CUSA for 2013. So my questions are...

1.) How could this be possible? I did hear that FAU would be in CUSA no later then July 1 2014, which left open earlier obviously. Would the NCAA have to stream line and both confrences agree? Seems crazy to me that this is even a possiblity.

2.) Would CUSA members want this? I can see both sides if either for or against.

Hope so, that would mean we (and Rutgers, Marlyand & Tulane) are leaving early. Lame duck seasons aren't good for anyone.

It all depends on the Belt teams having enough games. CUSA would let you in early but we can't do it and leave the SB with only 7 conference games.

What's wrong with 7 conference games. The big east had it for so long.

Not a chance.

I'd like one year with the texas schools, tech, Marshall! Uab , and hopefully usm or ecu before we leave cusa in 2014.

I don't want the memory of a great conference tarnished with two more spares.

They wouldn't all be able to fill that extra non-conference slot on such short notice.

I don't think anyone cares about how many teams it leaves the SBC with... I think it is going to come down to whether Rutgers & Maryland are moving in 2013 instead of 2014.

Our administration is going to move the earth to make sure we play in CUSA in 2013. Not sure about FAU.

I wouldn't expect you guys to worry about the Belt. The only issue is that there is a timeline after which teams are not allowed to leave. Unless some sort of arraingement can be worked out, its going to be very difficult for the Belt teams to fill their schedule (especially for teams needing another home game or two). The question is going to come down to the legal obligations of MTSU and FAU. My guess is that FAU can't afford what the Belt will demand (for the record WV paid the Big East 20 Million to leave early - partly over this issue) and will have to stay for another year to avoid lawsuits.

I'd hope for something to be worked out, but I just don't see how. And I doubt MTSU and FAU can bolt in 2013 without getting sued. The Belt doesn't want them, but we need the home games. And even the SEC would have trouble filling slots at this late date for next year.

We leave. FAU doesn't. Belt still has 9 teams and an 8 game conference schedule instead of 10 teams and an 8 game conference schedule. Ta da.

RE: FAU and MTSU in CUSA for 2013. How?
I know Ive been overly critical of the SBC additions and for that I apologize. You guys need to understand that the guys left in CUSA (Tulsa, Rice, UAB, Marshall, USM, UTEP)would like to enjoy our last year together with ECU and even Tulane. Most of us are excited about Tech, luke warm on UNT, FIU and UTSA. We already have two completely unknown teams coming in 2015. I dont think anyone is in any hurry to get MTSU and FAU on the schedule for 2013.

The Sun Belt has been good to all the programs coming in just like CUSA has been good to all the programs leaving.

I think its safe to say that 2 to 4 CUSA members will be gone in 2014 so let us have our love fest in 2013 and leave with good memories.

2014 on this is an entirely different conference and its all yours and whoever else Britton brings in from the SBC.

"Middle Tennessee and Florida Atlantic will join the league no later than the 2014-15 season, though C-USA commissioner Britton Banowsky indicated there are ongoing talks with the Sun Belt that could have them joining sooner."

Why in god's name would they have the tournament at the westernmost school in the conference?

Oh well, I'll probably be there. 04-cheers

I know you guys might be upset, and you have let it be known for sure Panic. I think MT fans just want to be given a fair shake. We really have been the bell cow Athletic program in the Belt along with WKU for the last decade, and would like to be judged on our actual merit instead of preconcieved/Cartel Driven notions. If after that you think we are cellar dwellar pond scum, feel free to ride us about it. Until then try to make a trip to nashville in 2013 OR 2014, I'll give good nightlife recommendations to anyone who wants the skinny. 04-rock

My impression after reading that...... Sounds like we might have a current conference member that might be leaving a little earlier than expected.......And it may not be by choice.

You guys dont play in Nashville. You play in Murfreesboro.

Regardless - good luck next year.

Tulsa and UTEP arent leaving a good TV CUSA contract behind to go to a bad MWC one in 2013. Tulsa was on TV 11 times this year. We will be on TV just as much next year with the Fox contract.

Just like the BIg East isnt going to let anyone else join in 2013 and get the last year share of free AQ money.

Neither school is doing anything until 2014 and no one else is coming into the league until 2014.
