If they watched the doc. and watched the slaughter and abuse, only a souless person would be unmoved. I KNOW it won't do any good to write the President or BLM, but I have to do something. My heart breaks for these magnificent animals.

I think the Pres and members of congress and senate should be forced to watch this, as well as the doc that HBO made about dogs and the gas chamber. Things might change then.

Ya think? Millions of people all around the world give it all they've got. It's like a bottomless pit. You throw money, tears, emotions....all you've got to make a small difference and it's just never enough. It does not stop. Puppy mills, dog fighting, abuse, neglect...it makes my heart sick. Sometimes it feels so hopeless. But you just keep going hoping for that day. My heart has been shattered so many times, I don't think I have any left....but there is going to be that one face and I will dive right back in...just watch.

I know. And when you throw in the billions of factory-farmed animals all over the world, the animals tortured so cosmetics can be made (with still no guarantee of safe products), the animals experimented on in the name of science when there are more accurate non-animal methods, the clubbed seals, the electrocuted furbearing animals, the whales, the horror is too much to stand.

A small group of us gave ten years of our lives from about 1985-1995 to try to make the city pound a real "Shelter", and at least, stop some of the most inhumane acts. And you see what that hellhole is like today. We poured money, oodles of time, emotions, and every trick, scheme and device we could cook up to make a real change there. We did succeed in creating affordable sterilization programs and drew attention to many of the above areas of animal abuse, also. But it cost several of us our marriages, our peace of mind, time with our children, and ultimately, most of us had to pull back.
It will make you sick.

But make no mistake, WE HAVE MADE PROGRESS.

I thank God that there are still people willing to join the fight on whatever fronts they choose. I still do what I can to help. I invite everyone to do whatever they can, whether it be adoption, fostering, donating goods or money, volunteering at a shelter, or demonstrating in the street. Just keep telling the truth every chance you get. I was blessed to get $10,000 for spay/neuter from a lady who noticed my bumper sticker and left my group those funds, and more, in her will. Thank you, Dr. Margaret Sather and family!

And if you like to "party", as the younger folks say, find some party fundraisers that so many of the local animal groups put on, have fun, meet great people, and take a tax write-off. I will be glad to provide info on them. There are all kind of events from art gallery parties, to silent auctions, to house parties.

Thanks! Rant over. Love you guys! 04-bow04-rock04-cheers

Thank you for everything you have done for these helpless animals. Do you mind me asking what group you were/are with?

RE: I wish I had not seen this.
I just wish we could have accomplished more, but we all found it was incredibly hard to make progress fast enough. The ridicule and abuse we took from so many people was difficult and disgusting. It affected our children, too. Thank goodness, attitudes have changed a bit these days and there is more knowledge about what actually happens to animals.

I started off as a member and then Board member of Memphis Humane Society for several years. They are the oldest humane group in Memphis, and for about four decades, they were the only group here who rescued, sheltered, treated, and adopted homeless and injured animals. They were also the only group to do any cruelty investigations; the City refused to do that.

And then, I began helping the local Animal Protection Association to get more at the root of the problem, companion animal overpopulation. They pioneered the first large-scale, low-cost spay-neuter program here. I was on their Board for about ten years and president for two years. I am not active in any groups now, but I do try to go to their events and give what small donations I can.

Bet we know each other. I was with MHS for years in late 80' early 90's. Worked weekend with Ruth Cox (RIP my friend). Was also a part of APA for a while. Was a part is SOS when they first started. Than went out on my own and started Mid-South Keeshond rescue. I haven't been active for some time now, but like you...I do what I can. I give a lot of money to many rescue groups. If I kept that money, I could afford lower level season tickets instead of nosebleed....LOL.

I've known Sylvia Cox for over 20 years. Small world, but very close animal welfare community.
