yes it would of been good for you but it would of been a tragedy to a have a co bigeast champ falling all the way down to birmingham especially with the difference in league record

Yeah, because that has never happened before. Oh wait, it happened to Pitt 2 years ago.

And falling all the way down, meant 1 spot in the order......not that big of a deal.

Isn't that 3 years in a row?

Rumor has it that the ACC is going to pursue the Compass Bowl next round of bowl negotiations so Pitt will feel more at home.

i wouldnt be against them adding pinstripe though for real for the mid to late bowl tie vs bigten mid to late

Does the Big Ten want to deal with the ACC now that we've thrown ND a life line? It's not like they have wanted to deal with us in the past. We've never had more than 1 Big Ten bowl tie in and currently have none.

the bigten wanted in the pinstripe deal when it first started but couldnt fit iit in there lineup and im sure the pinstripe would up the payout if they can get acc/bigten with a better tv slot

ACC / Big10 seems like the perfect match up for the Pin Stripe going forward!

Well, at least next year you don't have to worry about playing in the 'hood in B'ham.

Of course after a trip to Shreveport y'all might look fondly upon those January afternoons in Alabama.

Delaney turned his nose up at the original proposal but now that realignment has taken place, as others have mentioned, he has already publicly stated they are interested in the next deal. The ACC would seem the logical choice. Too bad the Jet's domed West Side stadium never came about. Would have been better for the 'cuses NY games as well.

Maybe an injustice but tragedy? Yikes. I for one am glad you all got the assignment, unlike some Pitt fans. Although I might take a cab to the game anyway and cheer for the Orange. Weather permitting. I actually have an Orange wool cap:) Found it at Newark airport.

I wasn't interested in dealing with those cretins in sub freezing temps, all the while risking being spit on and having god knows what else tossed at us. I assume they're better behaved with SU?

I just made my Birmingham reservations and am actually taking the Amtrak Crescent City from Penn Station direct to B'ham. A day of golf on the Alabama Trail, then the game. WVU? No thank you. I'm just glad I skipped Compass Bowl #2. Great opponent, the Ole Miss folks will create a great environment, and they're generally polite genteel people. Given the ups and downs of the season we did OK.

If you're going to Yankee Stadium, be safe.

Bottomline decision. Cuse travels to NYC better than Pitt. Cuse was invited before WVU was invited too.

Correction: The Pinstripe Bowl believes that Syracuse will travel better than Pitt.

And the reason that Syracuse was invited was because they were forced to make their decision before they were able to choose the B12 opponent. Had they been able to wait, they would have likely gone for a Pitt/WVU game.

RE: Pitt vs Ole Miss in the Compass Bowl
9/10 times I think Syracuse would get invited to the Pinstripe Bowl over Pitt and 9/10 times I think that would probably be the right decision. I totally understand why the committee or whoever picks the teams would find Syracuse to be a very attractive team for the game.

Still, I think that a Pitt-WVU matchup is the 1/10 where Pitt would have been the better choice. Pitt-PSU would be similar. Other than those two instances, pick Syracuse all day and every day.

I understand Syracuse was chosen before WVU and so this really becomes a moot point. Still, I would have loved the opportunity to get to this game and I think Pitt could have travelled very well to this location and would have brought a lot of fans excited for this particular matchup. I think the heightened interest WVU and Pitt fans would have had in the game could have covered the attendance gap between Syracuse and Pitt by themselves.

Either way - good luck to the Orange and to those of you who are going, enjoy what looks to be an excellent matchup and bowl experience.

I hate that stinking stadium in Birmingham, Alabama. It was awful when we went there for the Papa John's in 2008. It rained the entire time, cold and windy and to top it off, they ran out of pizza in the first quarter. Warm beer from a can. goooooood stuff.

Better being in Birmingham than sitting home at 5-7...trust me if you asked me when we were 2-4 in mid Oct...I would've gladly taken 6-6 and Birmingham right then and there.

Of course a bowl is always better than no bowl. It's really important for this team because they get extra practices with Chryst.

RE: Pitt vs Ole Miss in the Compass Bowl
Interestingly, a lot of Pitt fans have brought up the fact that Alvarez wanted the Pitt job when we hired Paul Hackett back in the late '80s-early '90s. Talk about an awful move.

I'm unabashed in my support for Chryst. I think Pitt is going to do well under his watch and soon we may find him to be an even better recruiter than anyone could have expected. If he manages to land Robert Foster and Tyler Boyd he'll prove a lot of people wrong on that front. While I think his game day coaching has been problematic at times, for the most part I have been happy and have found the improvement of our team this year to be good. It's easy to see the kids are getting good coaching with this staff and that wasn't always the case in the past.

RE: Pitt vs Ole Miss in the Compass Bowl
Agreed ndlutz... though his gameday coaching needs work it got better and I thought most of his game plans were great. He certainly has an attention to detail and is a QB developer. That was the two most important things Pitt lacked under the Wanny regime. I am very high on Paul Chryst and can't wait to see what a QB does with multiple years in his system.

Someone on the scout board claimed his dad is friends with Alveraz and siad that although Barry loves Pitt, it was him that turned them down. Felt that it was too much to ask to be the home town hero. He might have convinced Chryst the same thing.

I also saw some old badger fans this year post after Pitt games that watching Pitt this year reminded them of some of Barry's earliest Badger teams. I will certainly take that!
