A great coach and a great sense of humor.

This is a sad day. He was a great coach and a lot of us Miner fans have a lot of fond memories of seeing him and his Utes going up against Coach Haskins and our Miners. RIP Coach Majerus.

Great coach/ambassador of college basketball. He brought a tough Marquette team to Huntington when I was in jr. high school, Marquette lead by 20 @ halftime and the Herd won on a last second bucket. One of my greatest mbb memories. RIP Coach, a true gentleman.

RE: Rick Majerus Passes Away At 64
Majerus was a great friend of Coach Haskins and one of the best promoters of his legacy.

In the mid-90s, when Haskins' name kept getting put forward for the Hall of Fame and kept getting rejected, he called the Hall of Fame a fraud.

When Haskins had a heart attack during a game in 1996 (I think) and had to undergo a bypass, Majerus left Utah immediately to be with him and to give him pointers (given his past heart problems). The Utes were in town that next Thursday. It was probably the first and only time you'll see an opponent's coach getting a minutes-long standing ovation when coming out for pregame warmups at the DHC.

He often said that the biggest compliment he received in life was when Haskins told him that his teams played defense the way UTEP used to.

He was a helluva coach and a helluva person.

To Miner fans, he was like one of our own.

We followed him, and always hoped he did well..... wherever he was.

Rest in peace, Rick Majerus. I had the pleasure of meeting the man, when in 1996 he brought his Utah Utes into El Paso and whacked the Miners pretty good. After the game, I met him after he gave an interview for a Salt Lake City broadcaster. He signed an autograph for me, and professed his appreciation for Don Haskins. He was a good guy and a heck of a coach.

He was always my second favorite coach. I had so much respect for him after he made the trip to El Paso to visit Coach Haskins. To me he was one of the greats. R.I.P. Coach Majerus. Those who met you are better for it.

RE: Rick Majerus Passes Away At 64
The last time I saw Rick Majerus coaching it was against Memphis. He was said to be a very funny man. I remember one story he told in the El Paso Times about his friendship with Don Haskins which he poked fun of himself that went something like this:

"Whenever Don and I go to eat at a restuarant people come up to him and ask him for an autograph. But when they see me with him the look on their faces is like 'who's this fat SOB?'"

R.I.P. Coach Majerus, I will never forget the time he flew in to El Paso to give advice to Don Haskins when Haskins had a heart attack or that standing ovation he recieved at the Don Haskins Center.
