Cooper with runner up trophy
BOWLING GREEN, KY (FOX19) -
A team who adopted a "one team, one dream" motto fell one win short of the first state championship.
The Cooper Jaguars started football just five-years-ago and won four consecutive road playoff games to advance to the class 5A state title against Bowling Green. But, the undefeated Purples jumped on Cooper early and never trailed in a 34-20 final score.
"We did something no one thought we could do," said head coach Randy Borchers. "We didn't lose. You can't lose when you have a run like we had and where we came from. We came up a little short in the fourth quarter, but these kids are winners."
Cooper cut Bowling Green's lead to just 7 points in the 4th quarter, but couldn't get enough defensive stops to pull even. The loss is only Cooper's second this season.
"We weren't even expected to compete in this game," said Cooper quarterback Tyler Morris. "I think we certainly raised expectations."
