Season Review
Although the season isn't over yet, it is over for the 4-8 Mean Green. Here is my review of the season the 2012 football season.

UNT@LSU- Yes. UNT lost this game, but they were able to do some things in the 41-14 loss. LSU did not open up it's offense in that game, but there we some positives that made many Mean Green fans believe the season could be special.

TSU@UNT- Texas Southern came to Denton and was beat 34-7, but the game was closer then the score. UNT needed late scores to pull away. At the time many fans believed the slow performance was nothing to worry about.

UNT@KSU- UNT played a solid game against Kansas State, which turned out to be the top team in the Big 12. The 35-21 loss was easily the best losing performance by UNT in the 2012 season. Even with UNT's record at 1-2, the strong showings against top Big 12 and SEC teams had many Mean Green fans believing North Texas could challenge for the Sun Belt title.

Troy@UNT- This was the game where many UNT fans started to realize our dreams of a bowl season was in trouble. Looking at the schedule before the season started, most fans believed the Troy game to be a must win, if North Texas was going to make 6-6. In the 14 -7, UNT went 0-5 in the redzone and missed field goal so often, coach McCarney benched the fieldgoal kickers. After the game many fans began questioning the Mean Green's passing attack, or lack-there-of. It was a game UNT never should have lost.

UNT@FAU
- The Mean Green won the game 21-14 on the road, but didn't look good in a game against an FAU team that had only one win over an FCS Wagner team at that point in the season. Although the Mean Green had addressed the issues in it's kicking game, concerns about the passing attack grew louder within the fanbase.

UNT@Houston- The Mean Green got stomped 44-21 in there last game at Robertson Stadium. The Mean Green beat Houston 7-3 in there first meeting at Robertson in 1946. With the Win Houston evened the series with UNT at 7 games each. North Texas was completly out-classed in a game where many Mean Green fans believed they would get a glimps of how our team would match up with C-USA foes in 2013. Up to this point in the season, Houston had not shown many signs of life.

ULL@UNT- Mean Green fans believe they have an advatage at Apogee Stadium. The place can be quite loud when the Mean Green fans get fired up. ULL had a rough Tuesday night on ESPN2 in the 30-23 North Texas win. The Mean Green were down in the forst half and had to fight back to get the win. At the time Mean Green fans believed the team had learned to win games and this was the game we would all point to as the turning point of UNT's fortunes. It was a game most had circled as a win. With this win North Texas improved to 3-4, and the fanbase believed the door to a bowl game had just reopened for the Mean Green.

UNT@MTSU- After thumping the Blueraiders 59-7 in the 2012 season finale, and coming off a nationaly televized upset of ULL, the Mean Green believed they had a good chance to win this game. MTSU ran away to a 24-0 halftime lead, and won the game easily 38-21.

ASU@UNT- Arkansas State came to Denton and ruined Homcoming for the Mean Green by a score of 37-19. The Mean Green held a lead of 9-7 in the 1st quarter, but was not able to keep up with the high powered Red Wolves.

USA@UNT- North Texas closed out it's home schedule with a 24-14 win over South Alabama. It was the second year in a row the Mean Green had finished their home schedule with a win. The FCS move-up and charter Sun Belt Conference member gave North Texas a good game.

UNT@ULM- At 4-6 North Texas knew they would need to win both of it's remaining games. Unfortunatly, both of these game were on the road against programs that had recorded big wins over SEC teams. To make matters worse, UNT saw the return of top Sun Belt Quarterback Kolton Browning. In the end UNT fell 42-16. The Mean Green at 4-7 with one game left also lost any chance of making a bowl.

UNT@WKU- With North Texas leading 24-10 heading into the 4th quarter, the Hilltoppers scored 15 unanswered points to win the game. UNT settled for a 4-8 record for the 2012 football season.

By the end of the season Mean Green fans were left scratching their heads and wondering what changes would be made in preperation for C-USA in 2013.
