Opened up the ESPN team page, and was surprised to see UC ranked #1 in the country in rebounding. That's the one area I expected us to be worse than last year. Though this might just be adding averages of guys who haven't played all 6 games, as this says our average is 49.2, but I see it as 45.5. But other teams get the same benefit. Pretty dramatic improvement against what should already be a better tougher schedule than last year.

2012-13 OVERALL RANKINGS
POINTS PER GAME
86.8 6th OVERALL
REBOUNDS PER GAME
49.2 1st OVERALL
ASSISTS PER GAME
16.7 28th OVERALL
FIELD GOAL PCT
.475 41st OVERALL

Our first 6 Games last year: 35 rpg, +6.5/game
41(+13), 39(+13), 34(+7), 42(+20), 27(-13, Marshall), 27(-1, MiamiO)
Our first 6 Games this year: 45.5 rpg, +13.7/game
49(+20), 51(+31), 52(+13), 46(+22), 36(-2, ISU), 39(-2, Oregon)
Offensive Rebounds by game:
13,15,12,14,8,18

It's misleading considering they lost the battle of the boards against both ISU and Oregon. To their credit though they used their length and athleticism to absolutely crush the first four opponents on the boards. I believe they set new school records with 51 and 52 rebounds. You have to love that type of effort. Defensive rebounding needs a bit of work. Offensive rebounding they are very good.

What impresses me the most so far is the new uptempo style. They are nearly in the top 100 of Pomeroy's adjusted tempo ratings. The last two years they have been in the high 200's. At this point last year against weaker competition they hadn't scored more than 73 points and had failed to reach 70 in 4 of their first 6 games. The 77 points scored against Oregon are a season low. It's nice to have some offense to go with the great defense.
