I believe that I read that 64k was "tickets distributed"

From my TV set it looked like maybe 30,000 showed up.

I guess TV sets can be deceiving. It didn't look like that many.

It's hard to blame ticket prices when 15,000 tickets were priced under $10 online.

Not sure why the discrepancy, but here are the attendance numbers from ESPN:

SEC CG - ATTENDANCE: 75,624
ACC CG - ATTENDANCE: 64,778
Big Ten CG - ATTENDANCE: 41,260
PAC-12 CG - ATTENDANCE: 31,622

Pretty sad Stanford could only get 31k for the #8 team in country with a shot to go to the Rose Bowl.

ACC has to be happy with selling 64k tix. They didn't sell them at the $2 price.. people bought them full price and lost a ton of money on them.

Maybe scalpers were banking (pun intended) on an FSU / Miami CG?

It was deceptive due to the colors and the corners. The seats are bright Panther blue and stick out among a crowd wearing dark navy, gold, and garnet like a sore thumb. Secondly ... the lower corners were mostly empty, and also AFAIK not available to the general public. The lower corners got alot of TV time. One lower corner each side was student section. We had alot of people in that corner. Virtually none in the other. Same deal for FSU.

i thought the crowd was decent considering the matchup & the way it came about. one thing i think they could have done was allowed everybody to sit in lower bowl & tarp off the top

If the stadium seats ~74,000 then I believe ~50,000 were there.

So much for all the claims prior to moving the game to Charlotte would result in fans from teams not involved in the game attending in significant numbers.

If the matchups aren't Clemson or FSU vs VT there are always going to be significant empty seats.

Perhaps its time for the ACC to go the route the PAC12 has and have the highest rated school host the game. I'm very surprised even the B1G didn't sell out its game. Its really looking like these title games outside the SEC Game are made for TV games that casuals don't attend.

We can't do that because of some of the high school stadiums we have in this conference. The conference would lose out on ticket revenue.

The problem isn't Charlotte, it's the fact that outside a very small minority of schools the conference is still dominated by a basketball culture.

That Big 10 number is very surprising. Nebraska vs. Wisconsin is a pretty good matchup between 2 large traveling fan bases. Maybe Indianapolis is too far from Nebraska and Wisconsin to make plans to travel on a weeks notice.

There is no way there were only 9,000 empty seats at BOA on Saturday night... I'm guessing our attendance was closer to the Big East crowd. That said... the only two conferences who had true championship game quality crowds were in fact the SEC and Big East (and their's was on a Thursday night).

Here are the others...

Pseudo-Big East Championship had 52,798
Conference USA Championship had 17,635
Mid-American Conference Championship had 18,132

RE: $2 tickets really?
I don't understand why people get so hung up on attendance for these games. With the economy the way it is, it's a wonder anybody can afford to buy a ticket and a travel package for one of these games.

Yes, it would help to have the championship games played at the home field of the top seed but I think going to a neutral site is probably pretty cool for the fans who actually can make it.

Same problems playoff is going to have. People will have to choose between the semi final game and the championship game. Gets far worse if you go to three or four rounds (8 or 16 teams).

The way forward with a playoff starts with eliminating at least one game from everybody's schedule. First round is a bowl. Highest 8 ranked teams then go into home field playoff. Effectively 16-team playoff. Undefeated teams are automatically taken into the Top 8. It is inconceivable that there would be more than 8 teams still undefeated after one round of bowls. Everybody has an honest shot at the title.
