I love the students I teach but if someone was offering me 4 times my current salary, I'd listen.

Met with NC State today in DeKalb. Auburn may be sniffing around per Wetzel. Stuff is getting real.

I'd offer the MAC's first $1M contract as an extension. Not sure how to pay for it, but can't say you didn't try at that point.

This sucks. I wonder if we'll lose any recruits.

Surprised that this is the job he wants. I get the money, but unless this is just another stepping stone, I don't see this as a destination. Thanks for taking us to the next level, Coach. You handled yourself exactly like I would have expected a coach to act, both on and off the field, and held your players to high expectations. Best wishes.

Really? Your ideal coach, comes to NIU, coaches for two years, and leaves?
kind of sad

I think it'll be another stepping stone for him. I see him in the SEC or a high profile Big Ten job in the near future.

I don't get your point and I don't think you got mine. I didn't expect DD to stay forever, but I didn't think NC State was the opportunity he would leave for, unless it's a logical stepping stone for him to reach the next level. And, I think he is a coach who will reach the next level. Not sure why that's "kind of sad." Hope that clears it up for you.

Some great jobs could open up in the next couple of years. Maybe by being head coach at two programs is good for the resume. He's a smart guy and has made some good moves in his career.

RE: If This Is Doeren's Last Game as NIU Coach...
Yes "yesman" I do not care that Doeren leaves before the bowl game because I believe that he will not take his O.C. and his D.C. with him prior to the bowl game. When he leaves, he will not gut the staff prior to a bowl game like what Kill did.....
I respect that you have "feelings" for Kill, but given the fact that the bulk of Kill's entire staff has been with him since kindergarten, you will never convince me that this fool did not have to take the coordinators till after the bowl game. It is not like these guys did not know where they were going to be coaching and had to get out there and find a job.
Plus, I have never heard of a head coach getting a new job and not allowing the existing coaching staff to at least remain in place to coach the team in a bowl game less than 2 weeks away. I do not blame Kill for getting his $$$ and Doeren should get his $$$ too.....but for the last time it is not "what" Kill did, it is "how" he did it......you are a smart young man and should be able to grasp this...so while you think Kill did nothing wrong, others do have issues with "how" he did it. There is a right way and a wrong way to do everything. You have the right to believe he did nothing wrong, accept the fact that others also have the right to belive he did do some things wrong. And you have my word, now that Doeren is leaving and if he does not allow the OC and DC to coach the team in the bowl game, I will call him an a$$ wipe too.

Although he'd at least be an a$$wipe with 2 MACC trophies and 1 bowl trophy.

Exactly. But at least Carey's staying, so he's not.
