What is the alcohol policy at stadiums in ACC?
We've wondered if its ok to sell at off campus venues but not sold on campus venues?

Right now we have Yum Center off campus and Papa Johns and Patterson Baseball Stadium is on campus.

Booze all over at 'Cuse games in the Carrier Dome!!!! That's why it's the loud house! That was one thing I missed from NY to coming to NC... ugh sports games without booze are a drag, especially when its warm!

I don't think the ACC can regulate alcohol at the schools. However, they do discourage it. I don't believe the ACC allows alcohol at events they sponsor (ACC tourney, football championship, baseball tourney) even if those facilities allow it.

As XLance noted, in NC alcohol is not sold or allowed on campus or state property. it is generally tolerated in the parking lots. If you get too rowdy you face eviction and/or arrest. Sneaking it into the stadium will likely get you thrown off campus.

A lot of the NC State football parking is across the road at the state fairgrounds. Same rules - tolerated but don't get too rowdy.

NC Sate plays basketball at PNC Arena. The university owns the land but the building is operated by the Hurricanes. They sell alcohol in the private suites but stop 30 minutes before game time. Otherwise it is the same rule - tolerated in the parking lot.

Cornhole is allowed anytime, anywhere!

I should mention GT fans, being the good engineers they are, are infamous for sneaking in bourbon.

Alcohol sales stop at the start of the second half at YUM! and Papa Johns. Tailgating all around the outside of the stadium and in the parking lots of nearby buisnesses and Resturants before and after each home game. The Hard ones were the 11 am games though. Usually the crowds don't get rowdy as this has been going on for 40 years or more.
Lots of Resturants, sports bars have opened near Yum! and are very popular places as is 4th St Live, around 1/2 mile away. Lots of Hotel space in this city.

From my understanding, the ACC leaves it up to schools regardless of whether the facilities are on or off-campus. For example, this article from the Post-Standard states:

"SU’s decision to move to the Atlantic Coast Conference should not affect the school’s decision to sell beer at home games, as the ACC leaves it up to the schools to sell beer during athletic events or not.

[...]

ACC schools Boston College, Duke University and Clemson University athletic department officials said those campuses do not sell alcohol at any athletic events, on campus or off, but the decision was the school’s."

Also, the ACC Sportsmanship Code only reference's alcohol in regards to conference championship games.

"No alcoholic beverages shall be sold to the public at the site of a Conference
championship."

It sounds like to me that the only ban is at NCAA events, ACC championship games, and if state laws/university policy prohibit sales. I tried search the ACC website for by-laws to confirm that but I didn't end up finding anything.

Also for anyone who is interested, here is a good article about UofL and alcohol sales. Alcohol is a big part of the culture here in Louisville (we are right in the middle of bourbon country after all), though it isn't really a big deal if we can't sell alcohol as we only make ~$1.2 million from concession sales in total (includes beer, soft drinks, food, etc).

Currently, UofL sells beer and hard liquor at general concessions for all men and women's basketball games and at football games. We sell beer only at baseball and soccer games (baseball has $1 beers on Friday nights during the season).

At Pitt football games at Heinz there are beer sales and full bars but you need to be in the club level.

I worked in concessions for a long time. There was a percentage of customers that would ask for some variation of a not quite full soda. Some would turn around and pour 1/4 of the soda out. The percentage varied by opponent and section - (visitor and student sections were always higher. Hmmm....

Georgia Tech does have a club section w/a bar in Bobby Dodd that permits 2 drinks per ticket. Those seats cost upwards of $1,200 for the season and have a blocked off area for only their access.

We had a discussion earlier this year about laws in different states. Apparently NC is not as backwards as I thought.
