It's not a bad series but would one with USA be better? We have so much more in common with South, a longer shared history, and I would prefer to go to Mobile/Gulf Shores. I don't think USA has the alumni numbers in Birmingham that Troy does so a switch might mean a hit in home attendance for UAB.

USA will overpass them before too long.

Troy will never be in a conference other than the Sun Belt, unless the Sun Belt dissolves and changes its name to something else. It has no media market to speak of, it's barely accessible by modern transportation, and its academics are a colossal joke.

Until UAB can average more than 25k a game we will play Troy and our basketball team will unfortunately be stuck with the RPI hit playing them. It would be nice if they would make a coaching change and get serious about basketball with that new building. If we are forced to play them in basketball it would be nice if they were at least mediocre.

Sounds a lot like auburn and "Updykeville", which would make them perfect sec candidates. All kidding aside, this UAB-Troy comparison is reminding me of the story of "The Tortoise and the Hare"...I would not bet against Troy University being content with forever being in the Sun Belt Conference (which, by the way, has had a remarkable year in football) & if UAB athletics can't muster up more autonomy than is already on display, guess who the "Tortoise" may be in this scenario? Of course for those of you who have read or knowledge of this classic story, you know how it ended, right?

The waste of educational resources that is Troy is the result of the egomaniacal empire-building of two men. First they had George Wallace's college roommate as chancellor for 25 years, who used Troy State as a patronage engine for Wallace's political machine, finding no-work jobs for whoever George wished (including Little George). Jack Hawkins has continued the megalomania for almost another 25 years.

Doesn't matter if Hawkins is content or not. Unless he moves his campus to Atlanta, Troy has hit its ceiling.

Me neither. I've never had any negative experiences or ensuing animosity towards their university and alumni or Southern Miss. An on-the-field rivalry is one thing, but the awful things people say about these schools are ridiculous to me. But, what do I know...
