Melting Pot
There are at least two overriding issues right now at TU and possibly some others that will either change us, doom us or advance us.

Issue 1 - The "Parmley Affair": RP being investigated isn't good. I get the idea that there may be this culture going on at schools across the country in one form or another everywhere. But there is absolutely no excuse for a school with TU's reputation to allow this to occur. That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see that culture exist at every school across america with all the money flowing in and out of those schools.

I'm a bit of a conspiracy theorist when these things occur and what I think "could" be happening is a perfect storm of prejudices coming to bare. The Daily Oklahoman - an Oklahoma City based newspaper with no legitimate TU connections who seldom writes anything positive about Tulsa (city or school) gets proactively involved in something that once again hurts this city and region.

Well, whats the connection? Why would they "suddenly" be so interested in anything TU does? To me that just stinks to high heaven and beyond. What's the old saying from that movie "Dog Day Afternoon", if you're going to scXXw me, then kiss me? IMO this is at least somewhat of OKC wanting to put the screws to Tulsa-again. Anything with a Tulsa name to them is bad imo and needs to go away so they can maintain their state monopoly. Oh, I'm sure they are capable of faking their concerns, but history doesn't suggest that is correct IMO.

RP's involvement with anything in that part of OK is a little alarming to me since he doesn't work there or presently live there. Also, this is another nail in the "Bubba" tree to me. I wasn't that impressed with anything BC did here (just go back to some of the things I posted then) and evidently RP was picked by him as his replacement - at least thats my guess. I want to judge an AD on results and how he performs, not how nice a guy he is or how hard he slaps you on the back.

Why would an OKC gambler be connected with RP anyway? If those are the kinds of friends he had, then why in the world wouldn't that have been vetted before he was hired? But again, the gambler was from "the city".

Issue 2 - The Destruction of CUSA: Why in the world could TU let this happen? IMO this goes back to its connection with the other privates - SMU, Rice and Tulane. I just do not think aligning ourselves in some way with schools that do not have the same athletic goals and expectations are a good thing. We tagged along with them (Rice and SMU) from the WAC to CUSA. There has even been some bad blood between us and Rice for the TG hire and the Rice Band "affair".

But why in the world would we want to align ourselves with Rice and Tulane? SMU I can kind of understand, they at least "try", but the other two? What a joke? But now, without Houston and SMU we are in the proverbial crXp league that Bill Self once referred to and may not be able to extricate ourselves because our leadership is in such shambles. Basically, we've gone from the WH to the outhouse, not because of the kids - the players or the coaches, but the coach's bosses.

Yes, apparently we do. There are a lot of rumors that TU is being very proactive w/ conference realignment & we will all know more by this coming weekend.

I am ready for answer now, but I guess I would rather wait a few days & hope TU gets this one right.

RE: Melting Pot
Not that I want to hang around with Rice but if whoever is conducting the conference talks for us now should have at least contacted the ACC and see what they think of us....or maybe Rice and us throwing our hat in the ring there. You have more smallish private schools there than any other conference and they know as well as me they are going to be hurting before this is over, so why not be proactive now. Academically we fit in the ACC better than any other place. The problem for us is once we make a move to the MWC, as an example, and the ACC is dropped as one of the really big time conferences, it may not be cost effective for us to make a move to the ACC then. I'm just saying, make the call...........
