Tulane agrees to change venue for Big East Basketball
2. Tulane coach Ed Conroy is confident that the Green Wave can live up to the challenge of playing their games at the New Orleans Arena (capacity 18,500) when they join the Big East rather than playing at the Devlin Fieldhouse (formerly Fogelman), which holds 3,600... Conroy said playing the Big East games at the Hornets' site was part of the deal of admission to the conference.

So a stadium does help 05-deadhorse

But this line of questioning serves no purpose preaching to the choir

Well... some of the folks in the BE no doubt knew that Fogelman has some bad juju. Even the best of teams can go in there and come out with a head-scratching loss.

Probably a good thing. Big East doesn't want televised conference basketball games in an arena that looks like a high school gym. Of course an 18,000+ seat arena with even 1,000 folks won't look too good either.

The allure of an NBA arena had to help persuade the basketball schools.

So Tulane vs UCF in bball is now considered a big east basketball game, And they want that game played in an NBA arena? Wow this is so pathetic I can't even help but laugh.

Tulane Men's Basketball, even as bad as they have been historically, is still 501-246 for a .671 winning percentage at Fogelman Arena.

Ok. So you should invite them because they win at home a lot in a 2000 seat arena.

RE: Tulane agrees to change venue for Big East Basketball
Tulane got invited to the Big East to give the teams currently in the Big East someone they thought they could beat, and also get an area they could recruit. They weren't looking for quality, they were looking for a sure thing. A layup. Thats why Calhoun, Boeheim and Co. said no to Fogelman. Getting Tulane/New Orleans into the Big East isn't about helping Tulane. It is about TV ratings and taking recruits away from the SEC.

Don't worry. There are Louisville, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, and Notre Dame fans all over the country. They'll help fill the arena up... oh wait those guys left?

Tulane's concern should be how the Big East connection will influence recruiting of players to make them more competitive in the future regardless of venue. They will make it plain to their coaches that they expect such a boost in 2013 and beyond. As to the intentions of the Big East, I suspect they are banking upon just that kind of recruiting boost in the Gulf region for their own teams as well. I know about the Memphis area for BB, but I don't know the reputation of other areas of the south for "impact" players.

And a big thing we forgot / overlooked. Tulane is now a travel partner for Memphis.
