Let's just take a second, forget about football...
...and talk about basketball.

This is, of course, assuming that WKU and NMST enter the conference. But will CUSA swipe all of the Sunbelt's basketball swagger in 6 months? Will it salve the wound of possibly losing UTEP by adding the second best basketball team in the WAC? Am I crazy or is CUSA becoming a bigger player in NCAA hoops?

You have UNT, MTSU, and possibly WKU...the Sunbelt's bell cow tourney teams. You possibly have solid RPI perennially in the event that NMST gets a seat. And/or (for the moment) you have UTEP and Tulsa...who's worth their weight in gold in this category. You have a relevant USM team who looks strong enough to return to the tourney this year. You have UAB and Charlotte who are rebuilding their traditionally epic basketball prowess. And you also have Marshall and LaTech who are currently paying some serious attention to their hoops teams.

Sure, you can make a case about the legitimacy of this argument or the strength of FAU, FIU, UTSA, etc. But imo this is the best collection of non-AQ basketball programs who also have a "football first" mentality. The only others that immediately come to mind are UNLV, Utah State......well I guess you have to also include Memphis, Cincy and UConn because the Big East is non-AQ now too. 05-stirthepot

Man, for some reason this feels like a wild and drunken game of GO FISH.

Western Kentucky would be a good add for basketball, MTSU recent history says that it will be as well.

Don't forget ODU. Although we are currently experiencing a rare down year, we have been the CAA Champions more times than any other.

Ok. This thread can end now. After that, it won't get any better...

Hope you guys get things turned around soon. I'd hate for you to have to go through what we Charlotte fans have gone through.

This season has given us a bit of hope, but it is still early and we haven't played anyone. If we make it through our next three games undefeated (ECU, Davidson, Miami), I'll feel really really good about our team.

At least for the moment we'll still get to play Rice in baseball.

Travel distances right now would be shorter.

Basketball compared to the football playing schools in the Big East would be similar over the long haul.

Things aren't done yet though.

Here's an analysis I did yesterday (before the NSMU/WKU rumor): http://csnbbs.com/showthread.php?tid=603096
