RE: After The Season: Coaching
Guys look, everyone can't be the perfect fan like many of you. I love UAB, I graduated from UAB, and I will donate to UAB in the future. I will not, however, vilify and demean anyone with interest in another program. Sorry. I am of the opinion that it is going to take a significant length of time before UAB builds the type of reputation many schools in our region have. Some of you guys need to take a step back and think about what is best for the program. I would rather have capacity crowds where 80% of the fans leave to watch the Bama game after cheering the Blazers to victory than have 15,000 die hards who are berated constantly in the Snews.
Passion and friendly banter are part of the sport and are expected on forums such as this, but don't reprimand every "fair weather fan" or occasional poster simply because they lack the fervent Blazer spirit you have. Believe it or not, every Alabama fan isn't a BOT drone, and people are capable of supporting both schools.
Sorry for the rant, and I'm sure I'll draw some flak for it, but it has been on my mind for a while. I don't want the hatred for the BOT to deter others from becoming Blazer fans. I don't want to see South Alabama and Troy fans more often than fellow Blazers.

I honestly tried to to take the route you suggest with bammer fans and most times, I come out with egg on my face. Even on deployment I questioned my PA officer about putting a pic in the paper of every flag on base and three bama flags, but not one AU, UAB, or USA flag. His response was "Why what had they done this year?" in a chuckle.
I dont think most of us have bashed anyone for bringing up anyother school except uat. Even when a thread was started about the Magic City Classic and the ASU stadium, most of us rushed to defend the poster and it being posted.
I actually support and cheer on just about every school in this state (even Troy and USA.) But I'd be damned if I support that ass pit to the West.

I can empathize with that mindset. I've struggled with being a fan of multiple schools for a while and have actually converted a few friends who are fans of the other two schools into being fans of UAB as a second team. I think that is a good thing, maybe everyone doesn't. I just think the way many folks on the board react is a bit too hostile and deters interested outsiders.

RE: After The Season: Coaching
We need butts in the seats, no matter where their deepest allegiance lies. Our problem is not the casual fan of UAT or AU or Troy or USA or samford. Our problem is the Board and the state legislature. Let's welcome whoever shows up and buys a ticket and ask them to come back. Who knows, they might eventually discover that it's more interesting to be a UAB fan.
If we start winning, people will come to the games - many of them with other allegiances. McGee missed the oppportunity this year to build on the interest he created in the pre-season by losing winnable games to Troy, Tulsa, ECU and Memphis at home. If we win - our attendance and interest grows. Keep losing, our crowds will continue to dwindle. It's not complicated. Every AD in the country knows that. It's why the trigger for firing coaches gets shorter every season and it's why keeping Callaway that extra year was particularly damaging for us.

People can like Bama all they want. But if they do it on Blazertalk, they will be villified and demeaned. Yes, obviously people can support both schools, but this is Blazertalk. It is not where you support both schools.

+1 :uberbow: I don't care if I missed the sarcasm, but you are correct Memphis. Its "Blazertalk" not "Crimson Talk" or "Bammer Board"

I understand what you're saying, but not sure that it really applies to this thread. There is one poster (see above) that will turn every single thread into Bama talk...that gets old to the rest of us

I actually frequent a Bama board where the writers are intelligent, fair, and a couple of the posters are genuine UAB fans and graduates. I was attempting to answer a UA related question because the answer pertained to UAB.
Three or four posts "Crimsontalk" do not make.
Go Blazers, can't wait until Haase and Stache start putting us in the top 15 every year so we can have something better to argue about this time of year.

And apparently many of us want to be just like them, but in reverse. Our bone of contention is with the BOT, and the way some of us react, they have been able to cast the issue as "Blazers vs Crimson Tide" rather than being "pro UAB".
It is the same spirit in which the "Prolife" advocates like to describe the other side as "Proabortion" instead of "prochoice". It makes their issue so much easier to sell to the independent thinkers.

I try not to think about that school at all if I can help it.
I'd have thought blazertalk was my sanctuary in a gump-centric world, but clearly I was mistaken.
