Only if it was worth it financially. Looks like a lateral move to me. Rather be in the South.

Do you guys realize you'd have the same teams in your division (if it turned out as in earlier post) as you will have in the new CUSA West? The only difference is you trade North Texas for Airforce and New Mexico for New Mexico State. Not to mention the teams in the western division of the MWC that you would be associated with (other than Marshall) have a lot more history. I would think you'd jump all over that. I know I would as a Southern Miss fan.

Up.. that's the biggest "if".. so far, the only two teams even rumoured to be MWC discussed is UTEP/Tulsa. Is that worth the move if you were USM?? I'm not so sure.

The whole thread is a big "IF". But are you honestly saying you wouldn't rather be playing Airforce every year vs North Texas? (sorry nothing against NT), and New Mexico over New Mexico State. And then play game 1 on the west coast, and one western team at home every year vs playing 2 from what the new CUSA east will be made up of. Absolutely I would rather do that.

I wouldn't be surprised if UTEP and Tulsa were trying to bring UNT and/or UTSA with them. Both schools recruit Dallas/Ft. Worth heavily and have tons of alumni in the area.

I would not put it past the MWC to snag most if not all of C-USA West (Tulsa, Rice, UNT, UTEP, UTSA, and LA Tech), maybe Southern Miss too. They move New Mexico over with the C-West teams, and structure it in two divisions with no crossover games, just a championship game. This arangement would help with travel, and create stability for the teams involved. Of course a move like this would certainly be the end of the Sun Belt, as C-USA would be forced to raid it. Plus, this move would further hurt the Big East in their push for a new T.V. deal. After the ACC is finished raiding the Big East, the MWC would hold a large number of major markets and almost an equal amount of successful programs.

That could be true if the MWC holds Boise and SDState and any others who might leave. But if they do that, they won't be grabbing CUSA west, except for maybe a team or 2.

If UTEP, Rice, USM, and Tulsa go to the MWC, I sure hope we'd go with them if given the opportunity. Otherwise you can call it CUSA if you want, but we'd be in the sunbelt.

RE: WKU/NMSU are ammo for CUSA's upcoming defections...
KVIA channel 7 down here in El Paso, just showed them having a quick conversation with NMSU's AD. McKinley Boston said that they were feeling optimistic with the conversations they have made, the reporter asked him who those conversations were with, he said "I can't tell you that" with a grin on his face.

So it looks like they have a plan in place, but with which conference? C-USA? Sun Belt? It looks like they won't be left out for long, but where?

He nailed it! Seriously at this point I see only UTEP and Tulsa to the MWC.

I think Boise and San Diego State both stay with the Big East because it seems the Big 5 conferences take a long time to expand. The ACC might not take another Big East school for another year or two. C-USA is already poaching from the Belt. It appears the MWC is in the drivers seat right now. It would be a modified version of the alliance plan.

May be that they have an invite from the SBC in hand and CUSA has given them a tentative invite (tied to expected defection)? That may be why there has been no announcement and explains the A.D.'s "volatile" comment mentioned on another thread.

I read that as defections from CUSA to the MWC.

No one has said no to anything other than Air Force.
