It's time for UTEP to go home: the MWC
UTEP has always been, is and will always be a Western school trying to be a Texas school. Although C-USA has been really nice to UTEP and it's nice the conference wanted us back in 2004, I think this C-USA experiment should come to an end. Yes, we would lose our ties to DFW, Houston and San Antonio but hopefully our new coach will be able to recruit good players from Texas and California. Look at Boise State, they're in a region that offers little to no recruits at the FBS level but they have had coaches who win so that's why they're having winning seasons well over a decade now.
We belong in the Mountain West. They have like minded institutions and their basketball brand is strong, I would say most years they will be about the same or even better than Pac-12 basketball. The MWC dominates its region and the only power conference that's in its footprint is the Pac-12 which will leave the MWC alone for the next few decades. The WAC which was a competitor is dead after this year so the MWC and Pac-12 are the only two conferences left in the Mountain and Pacific time zones. And let's not forget our biggest rival New Mexico is there, I'm sure Floyd vs Alford would be an interesting rivalry in the MWC.
If we stay in C-USA then fine. But playing football and basketball with the likes of:
New Mexico
Air Force
Colorado State
Wyoming
Fresno State
Hawaii
San Jose State
Utah State
UNLV
Nevada
is much better than the alternative we have now. The only two schools I really care about in this conference are Tulsa and Rice and hopefully they can come with us or if they don't, I hope we would play those two in a regular basis in OOC, especially Rice.
I'm not dogging the other C-USA schools or the new additions. Each one of them old and new bring positives and will contribute to the conference one way or another. Like I said, if we stay here fine but I think long term UTEP will be better off in the MWC.

You make solid points. I hope nBe gets Fresno but even then MWC is probably more desirable for UTEP

After the news of the additions made today, I don't blame you guys. You probably would be better off in the MWC. CUSA missed the boat on this one. Should have added Texas State and Arkansas State in the west. Ohio/Toledo/Delaware or JMU in the east. I totally understand if you guys move on. Good luck.

I'd hate to lose UTEP but I would completely understand if the school decided to leave.

Tulsa and UTEP have a good thing going with CUSA. This is where both schools need to be.

Again MAC schools are not going anywhere and you would rather add JMU than MTSU

Neither school will leave unless the MWC can somehow change their TV contract; I am willing to bet that the Merlliance is on again...
Also, look for at least one team to be added to the BE from the MWC... it may be as many as three.
UTEP and Tulsa will both be fine; hell, there's a good chance that we all wind up together again someday anyways LOL. As for your attitudes... keep in mind that ECU fans have been there before so we know how it feels. Trust me on this. For that matter, we now have the BE to worry about.

I think if you consider Ohio/Toledo as a pair they would have considered. And to brutally honest....yes I would bet my money on the longterm development of JMU or Delaware over MTSU any day. Especially Delaware. Much bigger market, bigger endowment, state school etc. MTSU will always play 4th or 5th fiddle in the state of Tennessee. That's the point were nobody cares. Hell, Delaware already draws more people to their games.

Listen to you guys.. "We need to run now, because we need to go back to the conference that we said sucked earlier, even though they haven't really added anybody to make it better".
Hell, if i had my choice, UTEP fans would have been even "Unhappier" (again I think Delaware should have been the #1 contender). And I guarantee you we'd be hearing the same thing from Western teams....
I guess it's a case of "the grass is always greener on the other side.. until you get over the fence, and realize it's the SAME DAMN GRASS type you were just standing on!".

I'm not unhappy. All I'm saying is long term UTEP will be better off in the MWC playing with like minded institutions in the same time zone. And even though the MWC or should I say the old WAC's two biggest fish, Utah and BYU (and include Arizona and Arizona State as well) are gone, we have history with all of the MWC schools (except Utah State) and shared the same conference for years and even decades with some of them.

The MWC is better for you than the current C*USA makeup. I'm just disappointed that UAB dropped the ball months ago. Wish ya well, hate to lose ya.

I don't think the Big East would be the solution for UTEP at least long term. Especially if it's FB only, I don't think our administration would sacrifice our tradition rich basketball program for the sake of our football program playing in a very unstable conference. And I think the same goes for New Mexico, UNLV and perhaps Utah State and Nevada. Fresno State would bite though.

Considering what we are willing to pay a new head football coach, I don't think UTEP can afford to pay the CUSA exit fees, forfeit it's share of everyone else's exit fees, forfeit Memphis' NCAA credits, and then play the MWC entrance fee.
