I have no doubt the BOT would want to kill it, but if I won $327 million and I went public saying I was going to fund the $75 million for the stadium, I don't think the BOT could justify stopping it. They don't want attention because eventually someone (more powerful than the Free UAB movement) will realize they are breaking the law and cause them trouble.

If nothing else, it would definitely confirm the theory that they're nothing more than a bunch of obstructionist, dream-killing ***holes!!!

If I wasnt over seas I would say we all pitch in 20 bucks a piece, sign an agreement and notirize it, make a trip to GA or Tennessee and purchase the hell out of some tickets. greater chance in numbers.

evryone agrees the money goes to the stadium and what ever is left is slip evenly. But alas, thats the dreams of dreamers who dream.

I beg to differ. If you announced to the world that you have the money to build the stadium without one penny from bond issuance, there is no way in hell that it wouldn't happen.

I wonder of all the projects they build, how much money of the promised by individuals/boosters they have in hand when it goes for BOT approval???? It's a one way street for them & what's good for the goose isn't good for the gander

I know that in reality the problem is not the money. But the BOT can always claim the money that we have lined up is "not real."

Just as they did last year when it was announced that a majority of the skyboxes have been paid for by a plethora of local businesses and corporations. They shot that down. "Frenchy" has a point. No matter what is suggested and planned by UAB, if it's about a football stadium, they will manufacture an excuse to refuse.

Sure there is: "While we overwhelmingly appreciate the one-time facilities financial support from our alumnus, we do not feel that UAB has enough community support for continued institutional funds to be invested in the ongoing operations of the football program."

Or we could use the lottery money to hire a few hitmen.

1. That would be the cheapest option

2. I thought you were appalled at that kind of talk? Glad you came around.

Too bad my family no longer has the connections we used to

Not according to Mayor Bell, "Unk!" But he doesn't have the clearest view from his "vantage point', if you know what I mean.

As far as them breaking state law, they could care less and know that no one in the state legislature has the testicular fortitude to pursue any charges against them, because they are apparently, above such things.

Remember this state once had a governor that said the ethics laws didn't apply to him...Guess he found out how wrong he was on that one. But this is a "political football". No one in this state will dare to get into a 3-point stance against them.

I forgot to mention the additional athletic endowment fund. There.

RE: UAB's OCS plan
Make that $550 Million now. When's the next drawing? I may have to make a run up to Tennessee tomorrow and buy a pair of tickets. That's too damn much to leave unchallenged, however stacked the odds are, you can't win if you don't play.

By the way, I've never seen or heard anyone from this state cashing in one of them Powerball Jackpots. About time for one of us Blazertalkers to make history..Who will be the first-ever Blazertalk patron to win a major lottery jackpot? I predict one of the following 5: Smaugweiser, Goat On Fire, The Gorilla, Western Blazer or Grammar-Nazi!!!

Good question. I remember reading a story about a pretty well-to-do couple from Pennsylvania giving a "gift" to Penn State to start up a hockey program a few years ago in the amount of $80 million.
