Word is now with C-USA losing Tulane and ECU, NMSU has been brought up as a potential replacement to replace Tulane in the West Division.

This is beginning to get pathetic.

I never liked the move to CUSA and now with all the good teams leaving, it's getting to be sad.

Looks like we are going to be on the outside looking in.

Well, if it happens then we at least have an automatic conference every year, right?

UTEP to the MWC would be a great move now.

Fitbud, back when UTEP left the WAC to join C-USA (along with Tulsa, Rice, SMU... Houston was already there) it was the smart move. With NMSU and Idaho being brought into the WAC, UTEP could see the handwriting on the wall... the WAC was going to be in a terrible position whenever the MWC expanded without UTEP.

I agree that UTEP likely had no choice. I wish we would have pushed harder to get into the MWC.

Who knows, if we had stayed in teh WAC and competed well, it's likely that we would have been invited by the MWC when Boise St. Nevada, and Fresno ST. got invited.

If 'ifs' and 'buts' were sugar and nuts, we'd all have a merry Christmas.

If's and buts.

If I had made that left turn in Albuquerque, I might be banging Kate Upton right about now.

All you are doing Fit, is making up useless what-if's about the past. Daydreaming about the future is okay, but you are stuck in the past with the whole WAC what-if's and maybe's.

Okay fine. Let's talk about the future.

IMHO, UTEP's future looks bleak is we remain in CUSA.

I think our only way to remain relevant is to make a move to the MWC.

I wouldn't call UTEP's future 'bleak', but it is getting there with the constant realignment.

A move to the MWC would be cool, if UNLV and UNM are still there. If they bail, as some rumors are suggesting, then we may better off in the reorganized CUSA.

Conference USA boss not speculating on NMSU joining league
By Bret Bloomquist / El Paso Timeselpasotimes.com
Posted: 11/29/2012 02:01:53 PM MST

In a conference call discussing Conference USA expansion, commissioner Britton Banowsky refused to discuss or acknowledge rumors that New Mexico State or Western Kentucky were being considered for admission to the league.

"I don't know where those reports got started and I'm not going to speculate on it," he said in the teleconference today welcoming Middle Tennessee State and Florida Atlantic to the changing league.

With regard to the recent round of realignment, which began with the Big 10 adding Maryland and Rutgers and eventually trickling down to the Big East grabbing Tulane and East Carolina from Conference USA, Banowsky said, "It's a big fabric, and when you start ripping the fabric, when you start putting stress on the fabric, things separate and it's hard to keep it woven together. When it's not woven tightly, that's not good for the entire United States."

What teams would likely be in the new CUSA with UTEP?

Texas St.
UTSA
North Texas
Rice
Louisiana Tech
Southern Miss.

Most people probably don't even know most of those schools existed.
