I don't really care what they posted. I don't have any illusions about what has happened. The Big East finally ran out of acceptable eastern options and were basically forced to add ECU. We are joining a league that pretty much is what C-USA was about a decade ago. I never bought the 15 million dollar TV deal stuff, and personally I just hope ECU can get 5 million for our FB only membership, and 7 or 8 million if we actually get an all sports invite soon.

Um, UTEP averaged 26,948 in 2011.

Fair enough. BTW, you may not know the history behind this story. WVU has always lobbied for ECU to be in the same conference with them, even when they were in the Big East. None of ECU's fans are holding their breath on a B12 invite, but just so you know; that is what WVU has always done.

We've actually been in the same conference with West Virginia before. We were both in the SoCon for around two years. They were on the way out as we were on the way in.

WVU and VT have been good friends to ECU; not surprised at all WVU has lobbied for us but I certainly do not think it has given legs to anything happening except put our name in the room for a brief second and they moved on to other topics.

Doesn't surprise me. I always thought the Big East thing was an irrational distraction for ECU. I pointed to the ACC as a potential home , and I see why that was wrong, but I still think my basic point was valid. ECU would be more at home in a conference with more geographic cohesion and more of a football focus. I'm happy for y'all... but you're playing footsie with the Providence Friars LOL.

Not even close. $2-3 million for full membership at the most. I fully expect that by 2014 ECU will be a "full" member of the Big East. But I also expect that UConn will probably be gone. The current basketball only members will leave since they really will not have any connections to what the old Big East was.

The future "Big East" will be 9 Eastern teams and 9 Western teams. You will play each other team in your division for a total of 8 games. I think you see Marshall and UAB ultimately in the East. I think you see UNLV, Fresno, Tulsa, UTEP in the West.

My concern is USM. They have certainly proven to be a successful program. But conference footprints and media markets may make it tough for them.

The ACC would need to become even more of a new Big East before we even get mentioned. Most rational ECU fans know and agree about it.

Yeah, your compatriots have told me that and I get it. I still think y'all were selling yourselves short with that Big East crap. The SEC doesn't have a school in NC. Maybe that's more of a 20-year goal, but I still think it's a much better fit both ways. So is the Big XII.

I'm glad our state legislators got our neighbors up north into the Big 12 over Louisville and lobbied with the Mounties to try and get ECU in the Big 12. We don't need any help, guys. We're fine here in this mess. No worries.

It's not puzzling at all. WVU is an extension of New Jersey/Pennsylvania/Maryland. The leadership there has nothing to do with the state of West Virginia, and would up and move the entire university if they could. The government in West Virginia is too blind to see that and will do anything to be best buds with ol' Ollie and his gang. The population of West Virginia is too blind to see this as well. It is like seeing dUNCe or NCSU publicly and actually help (not agree) ECU to something better. It won't happen. Plus I think the large number of WVU fans/alumni in NC helps us.

It doesn't surprise me to see WVU lobby for us. WVU and VT have certainly been friends of our school.

Conference USA has been a very good home for us. Hopefully the Big East (and whatever other conference we will be joining) will be as well. If we ever get the chance to 'move up' after the Big East it will likely be the Big 12 unless the ACC implodes.

The basketball schools created the Big East, comprising 5/8 of the founding membership, and will absolutely not be leaving. If anything, they will tell the football schools to start their own league, and quit leaching off the name of the Big East. Say hello to the New Metro Conference or something like that.
