Summarizing Realignment
The Haves took care of themselves, and still ended up with the lion share of the BCS money in 5 conferences, instead of 6.

CUSA teams replaced their conference patches with those from the BE, and will still see CUSA money.

Tulsa/UTEP/Rice were pushed down a level with start-ups, and will be lucky to retain CUSA money. Best-case scenario, CUSA gets Toledo and MT St.

The WAC/Sunbelt ended up with high school stadiums.

RE: Summarizing Realignment
As an FIU fan I was happy with our move to C-USA for obvious reasons. Seeing ECU leave really puts a damper on things because being in the new "East Division" we would play them and Marshall. I know that both of those teams would draw well at FIU. The Western side of the bracket is not so bad, but we need to add teams to the East immediately. The Sun Belt has really come around and played well this year. ULL, ULM, Ark. St, MTSU and WKU are all becoming solid contributors and any one of those teams would be a good addition.

For the love of God, do not bring FAU aboard. The ONLY thing that they have going for them is their stadium which is really nice.

based on your woman's intuition? the BE will get better money than CUSA/MWC/MAC/Sun Belt.

with the b-balls only and the MWC teams...it should be decent...nothing like the "big 5"...but decent.

RE: Summarizing Realignment
A year ago i wanted to be in the CUSA, not so much anymore. I like the 6 veteran CUSA members that are left but not what the conference willl become. Just not worth it for Toledo or any other MAC teams to leave the easy travel (its not football i worry about, but all the other sports) and the stability of the MAC. It just doesnt make sense for us right now, especially witht the MAC having the year that they are.

You may end up being right about the Big East getting CUSA level money but that is not what is being told to the current members, new members, and perspective members. I know our administration at ECU is expect a pretty decent bump in TV revenue based on what was presented to them by the Big East. I just do not see how it will be as much as some are speculating but no doubt it will be substantially more than what we are currently getting and our share will be a football only share which is 70% of a full member. At the press conference they would not really comment or speculate on the amount but some local press said it should be several times more than what we currently get. Some have speculated as much as $8 million but I just do not see it but I would imagine no less than $4 million which is still over 3 times more than we get from CUSA.

There's more to come. Think you should wait until this is done before you summarize.

This was all just general speculation from local media types so I would not put much stock in it but the way I understood it was that would be the "possible" range for ECU but it was probably just a guess. My post was meant more just in general terms to show how much more money it would be for ECU even on the very low end of the speculation.

Reality check: Toledo and Ohio U are not going to join C-USA in its current (and probable future) state. Maybe WKU might, but I wouldn't be so sure of it......C-USA should take a deep breath before making any more moves......see what happens with the ACC and the BE first.

Who knows, that's why I said "Best-case scenario".
Then again, if I had told you Tulane and ECU to the BE a year ago...

I think that the numbers will be somewhat larger for everyone merely based on the growth in TV contract numbers overall. Not "strike it rich" larger, but larger.

Of course that's provided that when our conferences go to the table we don't hear "Sorry, we spent all of our advertisers' money on the big guys." Anything is possible. I don't know how you negotiate a TV contract when conferences are still moving schools around like Monopoly pieces on a board.

We're not raiding the MAC at this point. Maybe down the road... Nah... If we get any momentum the Big C*USA will raid us again.

Tulsa and Rice are going to a Bowl this season. So. Miss will bounce back. La. Tech is good and happy to be in C-USA. UAB, Marshall and UTEP are established programs who have each had their moments. The newcomers are in cities that will allow the league to negotiate a respectable TV deal. The Sun Belt clicking at your heels will keep C-USA on their toes to improve and be relevant. I know today's moves are another blow to the league's stability and pride but I think C-USA will be alright. Shaken but still standing.
