This is always a tough one. I always think of how we lost to them during the 2002 season.

Congrats on the win. YSU needs to learn to find ways to win late. Losing two in OT and one by 1 in four games sucks.

If you do, think YSU can have a pretty good season. Good luck the rest of the way.

Uh, oh....what happened to C.O.? Missed the game but saw the OT score on the Espn bottom line. Happy for these guys....nice win over a quality team.

Both Senderoff and Steinberg said on radio postgame it was a slight ankle sprain, they would do x-rays and take it day by day. Might miss a game, they don't think it's terribly serious.

I want to know what the story is with Manley. All he did was save us with a 20 point performance and since, he has not seen a minute of action. Does anyone have the scoop?

Ugh....a fractured foot!03-hissyfit

Hope he heals quickly! C.O. has been a great early season surprise for us. This mean that Melvin Tabb will have to be even bigger than he was last night at YSU and that Khaliq Spicer might see more of a role.

Very good question.

RE: Kent State @ YSU
Manley was not able to play against Nebraska because of what was described as very minor academic issue, not grade-related. It was stated that he could play against Youngstown. Why he didn't, I haven't heard. .... I wonder what exactly he fractured and what kind of fracture it is? I would think that, at best, Ortiz is out a few weeks, and at worse will be lost for the season. At least he will be able to get a medical redshirt if he is out for the season, having played in only 7 games.

Ortiz is getting a screw in his foot early next week and is out a minimum of 6 wks. I think they will see how long the process takes before making a decision on his possible return/redshirt.

That's too bad, Dannyb73, but as I understand the NCAA bylaws, one of the criteria for receiving a "medical hardship" is that the player be unable to return for the remainder of the season, and that documentation must be submitted. Of course, with such an injury I imagine getting a doctor to so certify wouldn't be difficult.

I don't know the rules, but if in 6 weeks he has a screw in his foot and they do a scan and see it might be another month or so, I would assume at that point they could turn in the paperwork for his medical redshirt. He would still be in the criteria to be eligible for it (meaning less than 8 games).

Right. My understanding is that there is no real time limit. They wouldn't have to apply until they are sure he won't, or shouldn't, return. Interestingly, under the rule in place a few years ago he would not be eligible. In fact, the Youngstown State game would have put him over the limit.

Six weeks. That would have Ortiz back in practice by the start of the MAC season and perhaps ready to play by mid January. That is not a complete loss if six weeks is in fact the timetable.

Getting that documentation would not be that difficult, but as fallsdog points out, it's not necessarily a season-ending injury.

Saw C.O. briefly last night and of course he hopes to make it back. He was very active last night, hopping on one leg out the huddles to offer encouragement so his head is still in the game. We shall learn about his status in time.

Anybody know the other "player" in sweats sitting behind the bench with K.K. Simmons? Porter perhaps?
