Seems like an extremely risky hire to me. No head coaching experience of any kind. Not even offensive or defensive coordinator experience.

Agreed. It sure backfired on Memphis when they hired Larry Porter (he was the LSU running backs coach at the time) a few years ago. Tulane hired a Saints position coach this past year, too. The jury is still out on him.

I think we're done. Oregon has already named Helfrich to be Kelly's successor if(when) he departs for the NFL. Saban has already said he's staying put and I believe him, of course I wouldn't be shocked if he went to the NFL, but I expect him to be back in Tuscaloosa next year. The only other NFL speculation I've heard surrounds Bill O'Brien, who has already said he's staying put(and has a massive buyout) and there has been some speculation surrounding Brian Kelly, but I don't see him making the jump yet.


EDIT: of course immediately following posting this I hear that Doug Marrone has several NFL teams interested in him.

UCLA's Jim Mora may also be a candidate for the Chargers job.

Glad I'm not a Chargers fan. Is he looking to be fired from an NFL job 3 times before the age of 55? He has surpassed expectations at UCLA already IMO, I think he'd be a fool to go back to the NFL so soon.
