Western Kentucky has lost defensive end Quanterus Smith to a left knee injury, the program confirmed Monday.
Smith, a 6-5, 250-pound senior, tore the ACL of his left knee in Saturday’s 31-27 loss at Louisiana-Lafayette.
The Grayson, Ga., native was having a record-setting season for the Hilltoppers. He had 18 1/2 tackles for loss, 12 1/2 sacks and 38 total stops for the Sun Belt’s best overall defense. He totaled 24 sacks in his career and 41 for a loss.
Smith leads the nation in sacks per game with 1.25 and is tied for the national lead in total sacks. He is tied for second in tackles for loss per game with 1.85 and only two FBS players have more than his 18 1/2.
He needed one more sack to set a Sun Belt Conference career record. NFLdraftscout.com rates Smith as the seventh best defensive end in the 2013 class.
Per Chad Bishop.

Great career and probably cost himself a spot on an NFL roster.

Damn, it sucks to see that happen; I hope an NFL team will still give him a look. We had the same situation with Benny Cunningham this year.

Man that's crushing. Surely somebody will take a shot at his kid in a camp. He's good enough.

It didn't look good when he went down, but heard nothing until this report. Really sad to see him get hurt his senior season.

That really sucks.

He is a special player.

We will see him on Sundays still I bet. He was showing too much promise this year for the scouts not to notice.
He gets on the rehab now and passes a physical in April and he will still find himself on a practice squad at least.

2 yrs in a row. Last year our DE Jared Clendinin went down late in the year. He was having a very good year as well (although not as good as Q).
Next man up.
