Memphis Blazer,

I did not say that it was Mackin holding the stadium back.
It IS The Board of Trustees holding the stadium back. They are predominately "Crimson Tide Supporters". They will "ALWAYS" prevent UAB from becoming a "recruiting threat" to their "alma-mater", especially in state recruiting.

They are pulling the wool over your eyes, deceiving you, for their own protection.

ATTALLABLAZE,

The "shiny new on campus stadium" IS the RECRUITING tool that would vastly improve signing of more highly sought after football players. Excellent recruiting GUARANTEES more wins and fewer losses. A much stronger team of highly recruited players also attracts a much larger fan base.

Success of every college football program is "all about excellent recruiting".

Without an on campus stadium, recruiting will always be mediocre, at best.

I'm surprised the numbers fell with this being the first year of McGee.

I didn't expect that.

So other than posting a picture over and over, how do you suggest we get a stadium.

And USC, Miami, South Carolina plus countless others seem to have done fairly well playing off campus.

Players want to play for winners. Win games, better players and more fans show up. Better players show more games are won. More fans show up, new stadiums are built. But that's the future. We are in the present. We are at Legion Field for the foreseeable future.

Therefore, we know the limitations and the challenges. We now need to come up with solutions instead of continuing on with a pipe dream. We can go on and on about how wronged we were, but that doesnt solve anything. The solution is not a new stadium. It is the reward.

I agree.

In our chicken and egg riddle, I'm more convinced that the egg must come first. It is plain and simple a frickin' drag to keep hauling our butts to Lesion Field season after season. It don't freakin' fit and we need a home of our own to help recruiting, identity, attendance.

We need a real lair to nourish our puny football dragon.

Same here. With the great crown at the Troy game and seeing how McGee went out in the city to pub the Blazers, I just knew this season would have pretty good crowds.

I believe the only way we get a new stadium is to move down in class. And that I don't think we will ever agree to.

I'm not surprised. All but the die-hards see is 3-8. Just like last year.

McGee has been very aggressive in the PR front. The bottom line is, though, winning is what matters.

Losing will do that. My gripe with reporting nowadays is they always go for the easy story. Solomon or any other reporter could have written this story in 10 minutes and not broken a sweat. Investigative journalism requires sweat and balls which is very lacking in all reporting nowadays. No one wants to upset the wrong person and be denied access.

RE: Here is Slime Solomon's Article
Solomon's article is on the front page of the sports section in Today's special Thanksgiving Day issue of the Birmingham News, including a picture of the home side of Legion Field.

I guess we will continue to read our attendance numbers listed in the first two paragraphs of UAB football write-ups from now to eternity.

No where does Solomon address what an OCS would do for UAB recruiting and attendance. He might as well be on the UA BOT.

At this point, we UAB fans cannot expect any help from any outlet of the press. This is a fight we must carry on ourselves.

It's always been that way, it's just that now more outlets require more cheaply-produced content. Preferably as cheap as possible, as in zero. Arriana Huffington just pocketed, what $300mill or so for a bunch of unpaid blogs plus aggregated stuff lifted from other sites?

The new guy is a workhorse and AMG no doubt plans to run with this pony until he burns out in a year or two and then toss him in the gutter (classic buy-and-burn) to replace him with someone else who can toss out 50 column inches a day. I don't see them surviving that long.

Don't judge Jon Solomon too harshly. He' still at al.com because no one else would take him. He's hit middle age with no marketable skills, a poor work history in a dead (not dying, dead) industry and is probably making less than 20 keys per annum. Next stop for him really is, no joke and no hyperbole, "would you like fries with that?" And you wonder why he's a bitter little man?

RE: Here is Slime Solomon's Article
I find it hilarious that during Iron Bowl week, the paper chooses to run this article front and center on the day of the year that they will most likely see the greatest number of readers. Like AB said, what's the point? Did someone on the BOT request this article? Why do others care how much in attendance we drew this year?

You are right. I was up top too taking cover from the rain. This whole piece was a calculated attack on UAB football.
