Sun Belt Bowl Cheering Guide
EDIT: Miami has self-imposed a bowl ban.
62 teams are eligible for 70 slots. 15 are still in the mix. Obviously we as a conference want the final number at 70 or less to guarantee all of our eligible teams a bowl. Here's the list with the number of wins needed in parentheses.
West Virginia (1) - Iowa St, Kansas
Central Michigan (1) - UMass
Virginia Tech (1) - Virginia
Purdue (1) - Indiana
Rice (1) - UTEP
Michigan State (1) - Minnesota
Troy (1) - Middle Tennessee
Baylor (1) - Texas Tech, Oklahoma State
SMU (1) - Tulsa
Ole Miss (1) - Mississippi State
Missouri (1) - Texas A&M
Wake Forest (1) - Vandy
Marshall (1) - East Carolina
Pitt (2) - Rutgers, USF
UConn (2) - Louisville, Cincinnati
There is real potential to be short enough eligible teams. I think West VA and CMU are locks, and Mizzou, Wake, Marshall, Pitt, and UConn are out. That leaves 8 teams to fill 6 slots.
It's looking good for the Belt's eligible teams but I think we end up with 70 or 71.

Do we really want it short ?
In the South, one of these bowls would love to take a 5-7 Missespissy or ewetee-obKNOXousville

yes, if they have to take a 5-7 team, its determined by academics and has nothing to do with fan support, I cant remember the list of the top tier teams, but I know Rice was one of them.
My question to the original poster for the thread, is are you counting Miami as a bowl bound team or not? I've heard that if they win against Duke, they will not sit out the bowl season because they don't want to lose the ability to get to the orange bowl, but if they lose to Duke and wouldn't be in the ACC championship game, they would sit out the bowl season.

That would be the best for the Belt.

I think they take Baylor as a first 5-7 team (should they end that way) by virtue of beating K State.

I don't think that the basis for taking a 5-7 team involves strength of schedule or rankings. I know they have the rule in place to place take a team that is in the top 5 in APR, and I think they will trickle down with APR results from there. As of now, all the top 5 APR teams are bowl eligible except Ohio State which is in a bowl ban. My guess is they will keep going down the list and accepting the highest rated APR schools with 5 wins, in this case, likely Rice would be first to bat for a bowl bid at 5-7.

RE: Sun Belt Bowl Cheering Guide
I am indeed counting Miami as one of the 63. I believe the first teams chosen (if UTSA isn't considered eligible) will be from the group of the top 5 APR teams at 5-7.
I honestly think it's unlikely that we're short. I don't necessarily think we "want" it short, but we certainly would rather be two short than have 2-3 extra and potentially have a Belt team sit at home.
EDIT: Make it 62. Miami announced their self imposed bowl ban this morning. Good for all in the Belt.
