Maybe McGee had the wrong mentor
Couple of weeks ago the zone, had a guest from Ark. media and were talking about the possible hiring of the infamous Bobby Petrino at Auburn and elsewhere.

The Ark media guy said that Bobby teams were fun to watch and played well on offense but would never win a championship or maybe even go to BCS bowl. Why because they however failed on defense when it counted and in general. He went on to state that defensive staff complained that Petrino always favored the transfers of players to offense but never to defense. While admitting a lack of experteses his ego was such that he continued to meddle with the defense and made them do strange stuff.

Matt asked about McGee - he liked him and said would be great at PR and handling offense but judging from the scores and brief tv watching might be one of the problems with our bad defense.

So a theory for this bad year could be that McGee had the wrong mentor. What do you all thing - I do not know if this could be part of problem

C-USA is won with offense, and Petrino is the best at it

I think right now he has a bad case of cranium rectitus.

It isn't bad for him to have this, everyone does at times.

The kicker is that he needs to realize this & pull it out.

If you ever think that you know it all, you soon will be passed over.

Not sure I agree. UCF and Southern Miss have dominated our division and win the league championship by...gasp...running the football and playing defense.

RE: Maybe McGee had the wrong mentor
Every coach has to be judged by the assistants he brings in. Watson suffered because of Bolt. Saban had to replace his OC after the first year at Bama. Right now Coach Chizik is suffering with two new Coordinators that may cost him his job after the former OC and DC helped him win a BCS NC. McGee may face the same challenge after this year for his DC. It will all depend upon how he sees the responsibility for losing so many high scoring games this season. Did the DC fail or did he do as well as he could with the players he had? It also "assumes" that he feels a replacement would do better.
